BOYS' ASKETB LL 1 N SECOND BOW Left to Bight Marvin Nederhoff,Ben Van Deest,Frank Meyer aan, Mr Bergendahl Harlyn Riekena, Roger Hippen, Vernon Eckhoff FIRST BOW Jim Geerdes, Eddie Riekena, Gary Stoehr, Wallace Deters, Neil OKones, Eddie Christians In the first week of October, thirty three boys reported for basketball to Coach Bergendahl After a few weeks of practice the following boys were chosen for the squad Seniors, Eddie Biekena, Gary Stoehr, Eddie Christians, Neil OKones, Juniors, Frank Meyeraan, Harlyn Hlekena, Roger Hippen, Vernon Eckhoff, Wallace Deters, Soph omores, Marvin Nederhoff, Ben Van Deest, and James Geerdes The returning lettermen were Eddie Blekena and Neil OKones The team had two things to look forward to their first year in the Pine Lake Conference and to be playing on a new basketball floor The team started off good by defeating Geneva only to drop their next two ball games to very fine ball clubs, Apllngton and Beaman We started off very slow in conference play by losing our first two games, but after that we found ourselves and started to play good ball A real thriller that I am sure everybody remembers was when we defeated Hubbard to take over first place in the Confer ence, only to lose it again by being defeated by Owasa At the end of Conference Dlav we were tied for second place with Radcliffe We were defeated in the first round of the Pine Lake Tournament by Radcliffe The Sectional Tournament was held at New Hartford we defeated Readlyn in the first round of tournament play, only to lose to New Hartford 1 team which went on to the State Tournament Two of the team members were selected for the All Pine Lake Conference team, Neil OKones on first team, and Eddie Riekena on the second team At the end of the season our record was lb wins and 10 loses, although not very lmpressive I am sure that it doesn't show the true strength of our team NAME GAMES FG AVE FT Pct FOULS TP Biekena, E l O 71 OKones 12 l2l Deters 2 Zbb FNOO O I-'U1bJU'1mbJU1ONLAJL' Stoehr M8 Geerdes Meyeraan 8 Christians OO Eckhoff OO Van Deest O Biekena, H OO Nederhoff OO Wellsburg 8 1271 Oppor nts U79 2 4 8 123U I 1 rr . . . 2U U3 85 15. 6 Z 71 3 2U 3 15. 5675 Sh 367 23 an 76 10. 5 75 M3 H1ppen 2U 62 56 7. 581 M5 l8O 211 22 37 3.
