VALEDICTORIAN PHILOSOPHY OF LIVING Why? is a question that must be asked before one can hope to succeed or have a future. This question is the basis for all our knowledge. The question probably was first asked when cavemen were colder at night than in the daytime or when food could be produced only at certain times of the year. When time reached the Classical Age and its great thinkers, questions were be- coming more selfish. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and other philosophers were asking why man was put on earth, why man wanted to attain fame and wealth, why man was afraid of dying. This self-questioning has continued to the present. We are asking ourselves much the same questions: why do we want an education? and why do we want money and fame? Many people try to give us satisfactory answers but we must attempt to find for ourselves the answers to why this and why that before we can reach our goals.
