Text from Pages 1 - 36 of the 1964 volume:

1964 Graduation from high school is an important event in your life for it means that you have successfully completed a prescribed course of study in preparation for your future plans. Many of you will be seeking further education at college or other institutions of learning. In pursuing this education there is one important thing to keep in mind and that is, that in the final analysis all effective education is self-education. A school or an institution can provide excellent facilities, outstanding teachers, an organized course of study, and even rewards and honors. Yet it is in your self-reliance, in your free self-determination, that the issue rests. The initiative is yours. It will be your self-discipline, your desire for learning, and your zeal that will make the difference. The best of luck to each and every' one of you. In deep appreciation for their sincere interest in guiding each of us, we, the class of sixty-four, respectfully dedicate our yearbook to our high school English teachers, Mrs. Gibson and Mr. Whitney. -3- FACULTY FACULTY: Mrs. Spear, Languages and Social Studies; Mr. Stoughton, Mathematics; Mrs. Rowe, Music; Mr. Whitney, English; Mr. Willard, Science. -4- PAUL WINFIELD MASTEN September 7, 1946 Matt” Littleton, N. THIS DIPLOMA SIGNIFIES THE COMPLETION OF TWELVE YEARS OF FORMAL EDUCATION, AND IS A MOST IMPORTANT STEP IN OUR LIVES. SOME OF US WILL NOT RECEIVE FURTHER FORMAL EDUCATION, BUT OTHERS WILL. BUT THIS IS OF RELATIVELY SMALL IMPORT, FOR WE MUST DEAL WITH THAT WHICH HAS ALREADY TAKEN PLACE. WE HAVE LEARNED MANY THINGS IN THE PAST TWELVE YEARS, BUT THE MOST IM- PORTANT LESSON OF ALL WAS THE FACT THAT ALL TRUE LEARN- ING COMES OF ONE S OWN ACCORD. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT WE RECOGNIZE THIS FACT, FOR IT CAN WELL BE THE KEY TO OUR FUTURE SUCCESS. LET US ALL STRIVE TO GAIN AS MUCH FORMAL EDUCATION AS POSSIBLE, BUT LET US ALSO STRIVE TO USE OUR MINDS FOR SELF-EDUCATION AT ALL TIMES. IT IS ONLY THROUGH THIS SELF-EDUCATION, WHICH SHOULD CONTINUE THROUGHOUT OUR LIVES, THAT WE CAN GAIN THAT KNOWLEDGE WHICH IS NECESSARY IN ORDER THAT WE BE INFORMED AND USE- FUL CITIZENS OF THIS CHANGING WORLD.
