To many people hopes and realizations are synonymous with Financial success, and such people generally have a realistic and sincere view- point, for is it not better to earn one's way in life and to provide for one's old age rather than depend upon governmental or charitable organizations. Of course, the answer is obvious, and such people should be commended unless they forget a few fundamental Christian principles. Sometimes, I wonder! Are we, as a nation, depending solely on the almighty dollar ? Are we looking for the 66-Sy W-SY? APG We working for the joy of Wcreating a better mouse trapn? Are we working for the joy of working with the intangible records? or, rather, do we Feel we must be paid for all that we do? We all realize that innumerable doctors save lives when no payment is possible, and that many lawyers defend the poor and the infirm. Services like these place those who perform them among the Immortals. And, if there is a life after death, as we all believe, God will reward such samaritans. So, 1957, my message is actually a very simple one. I urge you to remember that community service can never be measured by financial returns. Community service is of the spirit: it is Godlikey follows the lesson of WThe Golden HuleJ Therefore, 1957, remember to work to secure your futures, but likewise remember that there are many things in life which measured in dollars and cents. yr-ez 111. That is, until the mighty seniors introduced us with initiation and laughed heartily at our gullible nature while we recited: On this day of days, while I am 'in a haze, I bow in pain upon the floor, to the mighty class of '54 . After the long hard day of in- itiation, an eager group of Freshmen flocked into the auditorium that night to receive their official wel- come to Mary E. Wells High at the Freshman Party. Our officers were Paul Szczygiel, Presidentg Andrea Kidd, Vice Presidentg Carol Mc- Kinstry, Secretaryg George George, Treasurer. Our adviser was Mr. Var- nam. r., W .1 wa.-if guard Sophomore Yea r Election of our class officers opened the Soph- omore year with Jordan Christo, president, Debby Sichol, viceJpresident, Carol McKinstry, secre- tary, and Joe Skarani, treasurer. The Pre-Kick Off Dance opened the football season, but that year We were unable to win the traditional Wells- Bartlett game. Concluding our year . -org was the performance of ' Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M. S. PINAFORE presented by the Glcc Club. Ada Tieri and Carole Dudek distin- 1 -W guished thc class by having leading roles in the oper- etta. Other members of our class sang in the various choruses. SUSIE THE SIREN was a huge success, In June We turned to the enchantment of Paris to set the tempo for the Senior Reception and the Junior Prom.
