JUNE l942 At last we could walk wsth our noses hsgh and proclasm to the rest of the world we are tops Then suddenly we sensors were attacked by the pesky foes measles and scarlet fever Many of us were annoyed by rather than ssck wsth them Fra wcoss Roy for snstance watched measles sprout rsght before hss eyes Even the fsrst sensor event of the Year our play 320 College Avenue was affected The star Buddy Butler was quarantsned for two weeks the vsctsm of hss ssters scarlet fever Thss caused great anxsety sn the sensor class but Iucksly Buddy was re leased sust before the play and so the play was aved Upon Ray Phaneuf we turn the spotlsght of our thanks for hss fsne sob of worksng the spotlsght dursng the te'1se moments of the play The athletsc seasons scsntsllated wsth champson football and basketball teams And we of the Class of 42 are proud of our contrsbutson to these two great sports Notable dursng thss persod was the fsne 2l support one way or another asven our team dursng the Putnam gam Thss was fol lowed by the Northampton Basketball Tournament whsch many sensors attended For the fsrst tsme many of them found beauty sn a school busldsng Not to be left out of thss lsne up ss our D batsng Team Do you remember thesr exhsbstson of how men fsght verbal battles? would decorate the necks of the falrer sex of the hugh school whule thelr dannty ones would Ive In the hlp pockets of thelr current Romeos In splte of the dlther of dlthers for fear the rungs would fall to appear before Chrlstmas many were pleased to fund that Santa Claus rushed through has flrst de Iuvery of the golden curclets as a surprise present much apprecnated To add to the ranks of our brulllant mornlng faces we welcomed Julle Perron Buddy Butler and Professor Savory who ponned company wlth a good class Then too forty one of us punnors had younger brothers and susters nn the fresh man class to serve as nasty llttle chaperones edge from sand superior lunlors After we gave the town a good gomg over at New Year s our dear class returned to the haven of alma mater to prepare for the lunuor p ay Thus I state brlskly blow :ng on my nalls that the Class of l942 put on the best play ever presented wuthun the four walls of our great audutornum All lok Ing aslde the juniors packed the hall sold standnng room and made the buggest profnt In the hustory of Wells Furthermore this drama Mode to Order Hero was so good that not one but two extra command per THE CRIMSON AND GRAY formances were given before the chnldren of other schools No sooner had thus prause been sounded than It was tame for us to get to work and decorate that same assembly hall for Class Day It certainly IS lucky that gasollne ratlonnng wasn t In effect at that time o the four cars that each made about twenty trlps for flowers vases moss and above all mountaln lthe forbuddenl laurel wouldn t have been so successful But never before had we seen the old hall look so festlve and we grudglngly admitted that the mad and hectuc two days spent had brought pleasant results It was worth all the wor ry For weeks afterward the town buzzed nts decoratuons Closely follownng thus was the decoratnon of the Town Hall whuch we mnstakenly but Iaborlously thought could be decorated on the same scale However the patrlotlsm displayed was In :ts very slmpluclty beguulnng and all those present enloyed themselves So passed another year and the erstwhule lolly jumors have become the serlous se nlors just waltung for the favors of the truflung underclassmen SENIOR YEAR In September of l94l we became sensors CAST OF MADE TO ORDER HERO 20 I .
