THE CRIMSON AND GRAY HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF Lu2 FRESHMAN YEAR Contrary to the popular cu tom of heck Ing Freshmen the portals of Mary E Wells h ld outstretched arms as a small token of apprecuatuon of the Class of 42 Indeed ut was an honor ta welcome such an outstandung group A few weeks after cur legal acceotaunce of our chosen fate we decuded that old Wells needed a good shak ung up To do thus we acquured the aud of tlne Goddess of Wund whuch uncudentally resulted un the Hurrucane of 38 Thus pres sure dud away wuth a few cob webs and we were just on the threshold of a new era Because of our enthusuasm and ever lastung school spurut even the Senuors bent theur knees and urged us to attend theur Class Play lof course the money receuved from our tuckets was no obuecti and besudes the cheerful atmosphere whuch always sur rounded us we were later told that more entertaunment was deruved from our newly establushed method of dancung than from the play utself lPIease note Class of 39 I Especually notuceable was the hesutatuon of the Freshmen to dance the fast numbers Oh say gurls dud you ever duscover lust whuch sude of the audutoruum furnushed the best opportunuty for dancung or do you stull hopefully dash from one corner to another? For a short unterval the Class of 42 mugrated or should we say Gone Wuth the Wund to be found agaun on the bus to the Westfueld Tournament Ah' Those good old days when the Freshmen were the lufe of the party Weren t the Senuor gurls nuce Jesse and Harold? Was ut due to thus won derful day that encouraged Margaret Kee nan and Barbara Cudworth to such robust sudelune enthusuasm9 One of the outstandung extra currucular events was the Gurl Scouts Lawn Party at Muss Lanphear s house Werent the boys choosey tryung to match theur dunner cards and wuth such a beautuful chouce of gurls? Joe Theodoss coachung the softball game hunted at hus powers un athletucs Ask Gert Bouvuer how she made that home run Not wantung to show up the upper class men we partook un a pruvate dancung class whuch only proves that we were an out standung class Wull we ever forget the mus tletoe at Chrustmas tume9 lt seems that there were three or four Chrustmases that year Thus wonderful dancung class furn ushed an excutung conclusuon to our Fresh man year by our furst semu formal at the Publuck House wuth a grand march led by Annue Young and Bully I-logon Even the Sophomores SOPHOMORE YEAR After a summer vacatuon fulled wuth war news and propaganda we returned to school as lofty munded sophomores How pleasant ut was to strut about the corrudors actung hugh and mughty for the benefut of the crungung freshmen' And so we luved sunfully untul our class offucers were chosen to lead us Sophomore year saw the begunnung of the famous and successful Roy dynasty whuch was to last throughout the next two years That year the Cross Country team under Mr Snell enrolled a new member of whom everybody grew to be mughty proud Thus fast streak of lughtnung was no other than our own sophomore Norman Morong who won furst place un all cross country meets agaunst other schools Also at the Inter Scholastuc Meet un Boston he came un sec ond and brought more glory to humself as well as to hus classmates I8 Y Wg- i 11 ' I A l , S .
