Their overwhelming popuf larity with the students has caused the class to grow from one period daily to three, begin- ning, intermediate, and advanced classes, Ballet, toe, character and tap dancing are en- joyed by Wellsites and beautifully displayed in our shows. To prove the success of these classes, an annual Ballet is given, a program consisting of dancing exclusively, which has won citywide recognition. f I V ilzi jg Lai, v, 5 ,4 3 x, nf L 1 ? if I YI IX W2 wigs! The first game was a night contest at St. Phillips stadium against an old basketball rival Marshall High. Wells pushed a drive in the opening minutes of the game Onlled fo from the 50-yard line to Marshalls front door Where Ed. Larkin rushed it over for the first Wells touchdown. Al- though Marshall came back to Win by a single point e 6 fl9-l8J the game had many breath-taking runs and thrilling plays. Our other games however were not as impressive and although we did not Win a game We did gain that much needed experience, and we look for much improve- ment next year. .- Graduation, however, Will take great players like Iim Gianos-quarterback and most valuable back-field r man, Ronnie Tovella - a most valuable line man, Iohn Pavoloupolus - end, Iack Colbert - right half, and a number of others with good talent. But if you look at the boys coming back to the roster you Will see Wallace Martin - center and co-captain, George Venturi - right half and the other co-captain, Larry Brooks - tackle, Ed. Larkin H left half and many others who have unusual talent in playing football. JC A K Wells High Schools first football season was an ex- oof a. Mr. Oden did such a great job of assembling the talent offered him that our team was rated among the top 4 at the beginning of the season. The top performers of the season were Richard Koziol, Chester Lesniak, Ted Hoffman and Walter Draka. Richard Koziol was the top scorer in the city toward the end of the season pulling out in front after the Kelvyn Park game. Chester Lesniak and Ted Hoffman are on this list because of their su- perb ball handling and ability to call the plays. Walter Draka rates a spot because of his ability to play the center position. He had shots that were impossible to stop and his rebounding Was excellent. George Iaszurski and Robert Pawlowski held down the forward positions well, and did a fine job in adding strength to the team. To give the boys some keen competition the schedule of the practice games included many downstate games prominent among these were Springfield, Watseka, Taylorville, and Ke- Wanee, some of the best in the state. ln league competition, We Were only beaten by Marshall. l ' WELLS VS.
