Mr. Holder is Wells High's tower of strength for faculty and student body alike--a dedicated teacher, an enthusiastic track coach, and a principal par excellence. Because his many duties tie him closely to Wells, we give him this book of world maps so that he may at least do a little armchair travel- ing. MISS ETHEL WEYMOUTH Bates College A. B. , Cornell M. S. Mr. Langille's stentorian voice keeps our numerous freshmen well in hand, and his skill and patience as a driving teacher need ho comment. He had a fine girls' basketball team this year. To give him pleasure in his favorite pastime, we leave him this fine new fishing rod, complete with fish. Hair e nw I MRS. DOROTHY GREEN Bates College A. B. In the hope that he will be here to call to- -Rf ff gether another basketball team next year, we present him with this shrill new whistle. MRS. BERNETTE TRAFTON Nasson College The way to a man's heart is through his stomach. To produce happy, healthy, well-dressed homemakers is Mrs. Trafton's aim and she teaches the girls to ply a deft needle and spoon. Her wise guidance is an asset to the Stu- ' A dent Council. Because so many people borrow from the Home rw,1gA Economics room and do not return the borrowed articles, we Xfffffi leave Mrs. Trafton this fine basket, so that she may, each Lt'-1-fj73fg'J morning, make the rounds of the school, gathering in the ' strays. GLADYS ELIZABETH ALLEN Here is a dear and true industrious friend. Anyone want candy? Just ask Betty. She can always be seen with the candy or counting the candy money. Sweets with the sweet, we say. LLOYD EDWIN ALLEN It is far safer to say too little than too much. Lloyd is one of the few quiet members of our class: in fact, he was voted the quietest. He never says more than is necessary. DANIEL ARTHUR COOK 'Never do today what you can put off till tomorrow. lf you ever want to find Danny, never look for him in his seat, for that would be the last place to find him. You might find him at the drinking foun- tain, reading the sports pages in the library, or just plain socializing in the corridors. That is where he has put in the practice that won him his class superlative of 'the biggest flirt. fWas that the biggest in tonnage or in vol- tage?J Danny has used his powerful physique to such effect on the football field that he was given honorable mention as center on the ALL-STATE TEAM. Of course, Danny's middle name should be Procrastinate, but his good humor and friendliness can make even the teachers sometimes forget that. Track 3, 4: Football 1, 2, 3, 4. At times though, he can be a nuisance to his neighbor in homeroom. He's quite a tease. Warren is often seen riding around in his DeSoto with a certain junior miss. ARLINE JOYCE EPPICH A hard worker comes out on top. The class evidently believes this, for they voted Joyce the girl most likely to succeed. Joyce can handle the most involved tasks carefully and surely. Her two years as class treasurer and this past year as business manager of the year- book have certainly shown that. Whenever a senior has wanted help with his work, the cry is Ask Joyce, and Joyce always comes to the rescue. Many people think that he must spend all his time thinking up just the right remark to make when the occasion arises. On the cross country course he's known as the little man with the big wind, and he is a threat on the basketball floor. His side burns, his hair cut for lack of itj and his boneshaking style of dancing have made him known county-wide as Elvis. It's lucky that Dana is good-natured, for otherwise he'd take a few pokes back at some of his classmates who love to tease him. State Record Class S - 1955 State Champs or 7 Nine Years B57 Over the past nine years, Wells High School, with a co-educa- tional enrollment of only 166 pupils, has established an amazing track record and reputation. In keeping with this reputation was Wells' ninth victory in the state championship match at Colby College in June, 1956. Wells defeated the most closely competing Class S school, Berwick, by 31 and 112 points. Last May, Wells captured the Southem York County Meet by scoring a total of 60 points in all 13 events. Kennebunk, the closest Heaveq-10 rival, was 11 and 112 points behind. BUZZ ABBOTT '56 Wells took third place in the Suburban League Meet which in- cluded many Class L teams. Wells was '7 and 112 points behind Deer- ing, the leader. In all, Wells may be proud of its track record. A big factor in our victories was our heavy line with Paul Abendroth weighing in at 220, Danny Cook at 185, Keith Burgess at 205, Freddy Gagnon at 170, Pinky Hynes at 205 and the ends, Billy Miller and Dave Hutchinson at 180 and 165. The squad numbered twenty-one and the new uniforms helped to boost the team's morale. Mr. Rand was assisted in his coaching by Vander Forbes of Sanford and to them both goes much credit for our record of three losses and three victories, the most satisfying of all being that 27-7 over our arch-rivals, Kenne- bunk. With a good nucleus of the team left for the next season, Wells' hopes are high for 1957.
