GAA initiation was one of the first official welcomings . Soon girl's vol- leyball and fall baseball got underway. Although neither of these teams accom- plished all they would have liked, 1002, was put out by all. In November, the sen- iors staged their mock wedding. Chris and Jim became the happy couple. wqkx . At this time each senior and hisfher parents were recognized. The fall sport award banquet was held in March. Each aspiring athlete was recognized for hisfher ac- complishments. The senior-faculty bas- ketball game was played at the end of March, closely followed by the donkey basketball game which was played at the start of April. In both these events all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Before long, spring baseball got underway. Pitching sensation Jeff Sollars drew scouts from many major league teams . We were also one of the most active as far as clubs and sports were concerned. We have had a few money making activities and have earned more than enough for our Senior trip to Michigan. We would like to thank all who have supported us , especially our parents who lived through countless years of guiding our paths . The fall baseball schedule featured some real- ly outstanding pitching by big Dukes' ace, Jeff Sollars. In thirty-three innings of work, he struck out a total of seventy-eight batters . Lack of timely hitting, however, failed to sup- ply him with many runs in l-O, 2-1, and 4-2 conference losses. Coach Halpenny graduated from Western Illi- nois University in 1967 with a Bachelors De- gree in Education. He played varsity baseball and majored in Physical Education. In 1974, he received his Masters Degree from North- western University, majoring in Physical Edu- cation.
