Welhfgtan, Jllinazlv Volume I The first day of school, everyone arrived early ex- cept Jeanne, who arrived a bit late, laden with junk to H11 her locker. Everyone was happy to see each other and to rush to classes again, but after a few weeks to- gether, Alan decided to take Debbie OUT to eat. Randy seems to get a kick out of the meals, too. '11 L Q 'Sf LJ' 'K 1 , lsr ' .,-l As is traditional, along with the beginning of the year came initiation. The G.A.A initiated the new members and the seniors initiated the freshmen. Even- tually, everyone got into the fun and all had a fine time Finally, along came basketball season, and players and fans alike arrived early to board the bus for away games. Homecoming brought out the spirit in most when cheerleader Vicky got into a bit of a pie fight with Coach Cummins. To her surprise, the coach had more pie than she realized. Concessions for home games were always sold by the juniors and the student council and, eventually, other clubs got into the act. Christmas came with the arrival of Santa Clause and everyone exchanged gifts among friends and teachers. But soon after the vacation, school life worked itself back to normal with its share of assemblies and pep sessions. The student council also contributed a stu- dent lounge at this time which was appreciated by all. Along with spring came the senior trip to St. Louis with its swimming, movie, and zoog then, on to gradu- ation, the last step for the Class of 1972. Sleeping Beauty 1972 Cha Cha Cha! Scalar Crzjv After an extremely looonnng weekend, Mrs. Keller dreams ofa hot bath andjust one minute of peace and quiet. Curtis seems to have his eye on someone for the week- end, Who could it possibly be? Here's Janie, finding time to study for her next week's exams. April 7th at 6:00 a.m. the Senior class was SUPPOSED to be St. Louis boundg however, due to Mr. Hasselbring oversleeping we didn't leave until 8:00 a.m. After several hours on the road fighting the rain, we arrived in St. Louis. The Arch ofSt. Louis was the first welcome sign we saw. After unpacking we toured the Anheuser Busch Brewery. After dinner many of the braver Seniors decided to take a swim. Saturday we spent our time shopping, touring the Arch, swimming, sitting in the whirlpool and the saunas, and seeing a movie. ' Sunday morning everyone was busy packing and getting ready to go the St. Louis Zoo. Arriving home Sunday night, we all laughed about the weekend's experiences. Our curb-driver , Mr. Hasselbring, arrived at 8:00 a.m. and we're ready to go. Nick just seemed to hang around the entire trip. ,4 Weeken It was a long trip to St. Louis but every- one seemed to get comfortable. We ca.n't seem to figure out why Janie com- plained about her big feet the whole time. '0 kemamber The Seniors pose for a picture while visiting the famous arch. No, it wasn't McDonalds! At 2:00 a.m. there's still time for a pillow fight. Everyone in the pool was the cry that echoed through halls of the Marriott hotel. With nerves twitching, everyone waits for the long elevator ride. Dedication , E!! i .. We, the senior class of 1972, wish to dedicate the 1972 annual, Reflections , to a fine teacher, a loyal sponsor, and a true friend, Mrs. Vera Keller. In this annual, we have tried to reflect Wellington's never to be forgotten memories, joys, and tears of our long struggle to higher education. We would like to thank the entire annual staff for their cooperation and extend a special thanks to our sponsor, Miss Sturm, for the many hours she put toward making this annual possible. Zfmck 56115014 Wellington's 1972 Track season started on a low note when we got last in our first triangular meet at Milford with both Milford and Donovan beating us. As the season progressed, howeverg the team came alive with the late arrival of Terry Field, Tim Wat- son, Dennis wilbef, A1 Boyden, and the re-entry of Rick Vogel. Slowly the team pulled together and came up with its first victory in many years against a competitive Donovan team. We surprised many with our fifth place finish at the Conference Meet at East Lynn. We scared the pants off of Coach Bullock at Sheldon when we took nine Firsts to their three. At the final meet of the year, the County Meet, we again put the fear into some of the smaller schools by getting a tie for sixth place. Some outstanding individual performances were turned this year by Wellington boys. The most valu- able player on the team was Steve Mastin, who managed to rack up over 100 points in the season. Steve set the school record in the longjump by going 20' 3W and was only one-tenth ofa second off the school record in the 440 yard dash. Steve is an all around athlete and gentleman that deserves all the recognition the community can give. Many times he would run and place in three events in addition to his long jumping. Other individuals worthy of mention are Terry Field, who tied a school record in the 70 yard high hurdles at Sheldon. Terry also ran the low hurdles and pole vaulted. Pete Sollars as a freshman shows the potential to be a record setter in the high jump. Hank Longfellow and Earl Thompson also contributed several points in the shot put and dicus. Another real comer is Tim Watson who can become a real miler. The loss of Steve Mastin next year will hurt but the team has the core left for being a winning team. junior Koger and Al Decker still have a couple of good years left in the pole vault and ofcourse, Bear Voyles will be back.
