Although they started slowly they began to find the goal more and more often in the middle of the season. Though a great majority of the squad was juniors and sophomores, nine seniors were far more important than their small numbers would indicate. Their importance will be realized next year when the coaching staff will be faced with the task of replacing them. Headed by Captain Jack Romeis at tackle the list of these includes: quarterback, Dean Kirkpatrick, ends, Charles Wait and Ted Smith, tackle, George Brehmerg centers, Jim Bab- itt and jim Pugh, and tackles, Bob Lindsey and Paul Matcham. However, these losses will be slightly compen- sated for in next year's squad by returning lettermen Harold Furcron, jack Kepler, Ed Grose, jerry Carino, Ed Gott, Roger Harris, Philip Sheffield, Carl Oney, Allen Beal, Fred Brown, Harold Watters, and Clifton Rolfe. Getting off to a poor start, the Dukes dropped their first three games to Huron, Clearview, and Fairview by scores of 20 to 0, 14 to O, and 39 to 0 respectively. But the next week Kirkpatrick and Furcron crossed the goal to give us a 13 to 13 tie with Amherst. They, the Dukes, delighted Wellington fans by giving them a 33 to 14 win over Rocky River with Kepler, Grose, Furcron, and Sheffield scoring the Wellington T.D.'s. Wellington kept up the good work next by downing Vermillion by 32 to 13 when Kirkpatrick, Sheffield, Furcron, and Kepler found the end zone. This was followed by what was probably the biggest upset of the year when Furcron scored five touchdowns and Kepler scored one to beat Oberlin by 39 I0 21. Then we lost two league champions, Medina by a score of 12 to 0. Next on the schedule was Rittman who bowed to a fighting Duke team which scored 35 points to their 6. In this match Grose, Wait Kepler, and Carino scored the touchtowns while Smith made a safety. But the season ended with a great disappointment when New London took the Dukes 39 to 0.
