PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Samuel M. Graves, Principal The time has come for you, the Class of 1966, to say goodbye to your high school days. Measured by a lifetime, it was but yesterday that you left home and found yourself in school for the first time. Through the years that followed, you have grown in stature and in knowledge. Your parents and your teachers join in hoping that under their guidance you have learned to distinguish between the important and the trivial, between what is right and wha t is wrong, and between the true and the false. As you leave your high school and go your separate ways, to further education, the world of business, the armed forces of our country, or the early establishment of a home of your own, you can rest assured that the hopes and prayers of your parents, teachers, and friends go with you. Be true to your highest ideals and continue to build on the foundation that has been laid. Goodbye and good luck to all of you! Samuel M. Graves Principal it 12

We finally made it. I can truthfully say that there were times when I thought we would never finish this book, but no matter how tight the situations became, the staff somehow always man¬ aged to pull through. Often we did not get much sleep during the week before deadlines, but we were always able to finish the last bits of material to give to the printer when he came to collect them. This issue of the Wellesleyan represents the work of almost a hundred people. The jobs that these individuals performed ranged from run¬ ning errands to creating copy and layout. I realize that it sounds trite to say this, but each person’s work was vital to the completion of the book. Someone had to deliver those messages, and though such help is not as exciting as that of designing the cover, it was just as important. I imagine that there will always be a bottom position on the job totem pole of any organiza¬ tion, but without the bottom, there would be nothing to hold up the rest of the group. When I accepted the position of Editor-in- Chief last spring, I took it for granted that there would be a large number of people who would be willing to work for the yearbook. In retro¬ spect, I now realize that I was indeed taking a great deal for granted. Senior year is a busy time, and there are many other organizations in school besides the Wellesleyan, a fact which all editors- in-chief have a disturbing tendency to overlook. However, despite the blitheness of my assump¬ tions of a great corps of workers, I was by no means let down. We had many more applicants than staff positions. The number of student man-hours put into the production of this yearbook is phenomenal. It testifies to the ambition and responsibility of the Class of 1966. These individuals have put a great deal of time and effort into a cause which they deemed worthwhile. I want to thank every¬ one connected with the 1966 Wellesleyan for their co-operation and their support. Bill Nugent, Editor-in-chief EDITOR’S MESSAGE 13
