In September, there was a feeling of expectation noticeable in the air as the largest class ever to enter Wellesley High School, the Class of 1965, came face to face with its educational environment for the next three years. Although the former “big chiefs” of the Junior High School now found themselves being la¬ beled “scophomores” by upperclassmen, they were, on the whole, pleasantly surprised to find little of the class distinction that they had anticipated. During the fall, most of their fears and apprehen¬ sions melted away as the members of this new sopho¬ more class rapidly became adjusted to life on a high school level. They confidently elected their class offi¬ cers: James Dick, President, Richard Low, Vice-Presi¬ dent, Deborah Hoffman, Secretary, and Susan Hilde¬ brand, Treasurer; participated in the Sophomore Rally; drew posters for many dances; joined various staffs, committees, and clubs; and generally made their in¬ fluence felt throughout the school. They found, how¬ ever, that along with the advantages of high school life, such as freedom from monitors, came more re¬ sponsibility; their courses seemed more difficult; and they began to realize the importance of their grades on college records. The Class of 1965, instead of simply becoming a third division in the school, as do most classes when they are sophomores, has taken a truly active role as an integral part of Wellesley High School, and many of its members already have distinguished themselves academically and in activities. If their future perfor¬ ate in the school is as fine as their past performance, as seniors they will be sure to leave the same favorable impression on the members of Wellesley Senior High School.
