ADMINISTRATION John B. Chaffee Superintendent of Schools To obtain a capable administration is no easy task. It takes knowledge, experience, and dedication to guide and advise high school students. We are most fortunate to have Mr. John Chaffee, Mr. Samuel Graves, Mr. James Lape, and Mr. Bedros Kamitian as our guides and advisers. Through their wisdom and experience, Mr. Chaffee, our Superintendent of Schools, and his able staff have given us the precious opportunity to acquire a truly fine education. Mr. Graves has been not only our Principal but also our friend. As a result of his person¬ al interest in school activities, school personnel, and the student body, he has been able to coordinate all of these so that they function as one. Although this year Mr. Kamitian received a new title, Administra¬ tive Assistant, he was not new to the students, for he had been a teacher at the high school for many years. He has transferred his skill and knowledge gained by teaching to the job of maintaining correct discipline among the students. For all of the tasks that these administrators had to perform, they needed wisdom, patience, and a sense of humor to carry them through the difficult times. Because we have had the advice and understanding of these unusually able administrators, the Class of 1962 is deeply grateful and it steps forward into the future with great confidence. Samuel M. Graves Principal James T. Lape Bedros Kamitian Assistant Principal Administrative Assistant (Leave of Absence—John Hay Fellowship) 8

EDITOR S MESSAGE “The nation that has the schools has the future”. . . Bismark On a different level, the student who has attended the school has the future. We, the 1962 graduating class of the Gamaliel Bradford Senior High School, have been privileged to attend a fine school. A high school is many things. It is the ink, paper, chalk, slate, steel, wood, ceramics and cement that comprise the physical plant and the tools with which we work. It is the accumulated learning of Western Civilization which has been recorded in print for our perus¬ al. It is the scholastic excellence of the faculty which enables them to stimulate us intellectually. It is the development of minds in the classroom, bodies on the playing field and in the gymnasium, special skills in the workrooms, and character through participation in all these activities. For the student, high school is a bustling place where friendships prosper, memories accumulate, muscles coordinate, intellectual ap¬ petites increase, and each day’s challenge is the next day’s achieve¬ ment. Above all, the high school is an expression of this community’s faith in its young people; faith that manifests itself in buildings, books, and teachers’ salaries, in public service by the members of the school committee, and in the general interest of the town’s citi¬ zens in providing good schools. For this high school we give thanks. It has provided us with a firm educational foundation, a foundation which will enable us to step forward into the future with confidence. GUIDANCE Joseph C. Spang Director of Guidance Guidance has become one of the most important as¬ pects of school life. With so many opportunities to fur¬ ther our education and to obtain fine jobs, it is impor¬ tant that each student be shown the correct steps to take into the future. We at Wellesley High School are very fortunate to have a guidance staff with such experience and understanding. It was to these four people, Mr. Spang, Director of Guidance, Miss Craig, our new Dean of Girls, Miss Freitag, Counselor, and Mr. Mazukina, Counselor, that we turned when we needed advice or council about academic, social, or personal problems. That they always found some solution to our problems showed the amount of time and effort they expended upon helping us. Ask bewildered Sophomores how they would have staggered through their first year at the high school without the reassuring pep talks of the guidance counselors. And as Seniors, at the end of our high school career, we are so grateful for the excellent guidance given to us to help us choose our paths into the future. Without these fine people to guide our steps forward, the Class of 1962 never would have been able to look to the fu¬ ture with such assurance. Anna C. Craig Dean of Girls Alfred E. Mazukina Counselor Joyce J. Freitag Counselor 9
