EDITOR ' S MESSAGE Living in the world of 1960 man is experiencing the most dynamic period in all history. He has made more progress in the last sixty years than in the sixty centuries since the dawn of civilization. Yet this incredible prog¬ ress has produced problems never before encountered. A tremendous population explosion is imminent; the earth’s resources are being exhausted at an ever-increas¬ ing rate. Most formidable of all is the fact that man now for the first time has the power to destroy himself and his civilization, to reduce to nothing in a few short hours what it has taken milleniums to build. Faced with such overwhelming problems it is natural for many to say, “How 1 wish I were living one hundred years ago. Then there were no terrible world wars, no atomic bombs, no threat of extinction. The world was serene and secure.” As you, the members of the Class of I960 set out on your separate ways, you likely experience a similar feel¬ ing of nostalgia. You wish that you could return to your childhood days when you led a guided life and had few cares or worries. But this would surely be a backward step, for true development can never result from ignor¬ ance and isolation. Man is now on the threshold of truly wonderful achievement. Harnessed atomic fusion will solve power needs forever. Food from the sea will provide susten¬ ance for millions of years. The barriers of ignorance and intolerance are crumbling before the march of knowl¬ edge and understanding. However, a united peaceful world with a high standard of living available to every¬ one can be realized only if each individual accepts his responsibilities. Freedom cannot exist if all do not par¬ ticipate. The dreams of the ages are within reach. The chal¬ lenge is yours to meet. Being Business Manager takes a lot of work, doesn’t it, Kathy Mahaney? Susie Altman, your Senior Editor, struggles with the Senior write-ups. Dick Stimets deserves a great deal of credit for his hard work as Editor-in-Chief.

PRINCIPAL ' S MESSAGE As you young men and young women of the Class of I960 bring to a close your years at Wellesley High School, there are many thoughts passing through the minds of all those close and dear to you. These thoughts may well go back to that September day long ago when you left the security of your home and spent your fmt day in school. From that day to this your educational experiences have been pointed toward graduation from high school. From now on you are going to be more “on your own” than ever before. The real test of what your home, your church, your school, and youj com- munity have meant to you lies ahead. The hopes and prayers of parents, teachers, and schoolmates are with you as you go your several ways. May each of you find success and happiness in your chosen field, continued growth in those characteristics which mark the well-rounded personality, and a genuine appreciation of those qualities which make life worth living. God bless you all! Dick Stimets presents your Yearbook to Mr. Graves. Here is your devoted Art Staff: Gail Constantinides, Nancy Howe, Tamara Col¬ lier, Merrill Crockett, and Sue Gura. 6 As Photography Editor, Rick Howard is always on the lookout for good pictures.
