FOREWORD Only la t September, Sputnik made it dramatic appearance, providing man with a tiny glimpse of outer space. Hardly had the furor over this fir t satellite subsided when Mid-Year exams were bearing down on ui. Now as graduating Senior , let us look back over our last 180 day in Wellesley High -School—our athletics, our clubs, our committees, and our classes. Throughout the year, we were developing sportsmanship by either playing on one of our school’s many teams or simply supporting them from the -ide lines. In our school careers we have learned that sportsmanship not only occupies an important place in the sports world, but also in the every day world. During the busy winter months, we were active members of various cluta and committee . As Senior , we bore additional responsibilities, perhaps those of a chair¬ man or of a co-chairman. We gained, as a result, a better understanding of the impor¬ tance of co-operation and of the duties of an ordinary member of any organization. In every school activity, we’ve enjoyed fellowship. We’ve become aware of the rights and needs of others. We’ve learned to be a friend. Now as we leave our friends for college or for work, we feel confident that we will know how to make new friends. Who knows whether the fate of the world might not hinge on our ability to under¬ stand the needs and ways of fellow man? Of course, the greatest part of our high school careers has been spent in the class¬ room. e’ve learned more than facts. We’ve written papers, performed ex¬ periments, learned mathematical principles, studied foreign languages, and learned business skills. We’ve begun to learn to reason and to apply what we know to the situations that may confront us in the future. W e are not sure of what is ahead for us. Just as man will reach beyond Sputnik to the mysteries of the solar system, so we hope we will be able to live a worthwhile life. However, we must be fully aware of the importance in the achievement of our goal of those qualities which we have worked to develop in High School: leadership, the ability to co-operate and to bear responsibility, the ability to make friends, and the ability to reason.
