Roberts, L. Sardina, With the gloves and bats cut and being used once again, it’s time for the national pastime. Under the watchful eye of veteran coach ' ' Hal” Goodnough the Wellesley High nine had a favorable season with many lettermen returning. The senior boys coming back for another season were Billy Monaghan, noted for his long homeruns and great backstopping; Gige Harunk, one of the fastest men on the team and a fine fielder; Art Bonzagni, on the Bay State All-Star squad last season; Ken Slye, who hurled a no-hit, no-run game against Dedham last year; Joe Fleming, known as Fireman Joe for his timely relief roles; Ted Steeves; Paul Dalton; Lou Sardina, one of our old reliable catchers; and Jack Mason, our little second sacker. The two returning junior letter- men were Paul Russo and Charlie Reynolds. Probably the three toughest teams we faced this season were Natick, Dedham, and Milton. Under the excel¬ lent coaching of Mr. Goodnough and with some timely hitting and pitching, the team has done an excellent job, and all those connected with it should be congratu¬ lated. 26

SPRING TRACK The spring track team looked forward to a very successful sea¬ son under the direction of coach Ray Chapman and under the lead¬ ership of captain and state-220 yard low hurdle record holder Mai Brickett. With the aid of the return¬ ing varsity letter men and some prom¬ ising members of the cross country team, and due to the fact that we lost only three lettermen through graduation, we expected a fine season. The returning lettermen were Mai Brickett, who was undefeated in the 100 and the broad jump; Jim Drysdale, who ran the 100 and relay; Ber- nie Gleason and Paul Yelle who were outstanding in the broad jump; Charlie Sullivan, who ran the mile and the half and Dick Baughman, Miles Garrod, and Phil Dowd, who excelled in the high jump. The season included many dual meets and the State Meet, the Belmont Relay, the University of Massachusets Relay, and the Concord Invitation. Front Row: P. Dowd, D. Sutherland, D. Vaughan, M.
