I j The 1950 Raider basketball team had great potentialities. It rolled through its pre-season contests undefeated, while outscoring four opponents 242-124, but unfortunately it foundered when it hit the tough Bay State League competition. The starting club, made up of five seniors, was Pete Gallerani and Red Coughlin, co-captains, Lurr Maccini, Dick Baughman, and Paul Yelle. When performing at their best these boys were a great club; they could have been one of the best teams, but due to injuries and bad luck they found the going rough. Despite this, the boys had many good days. Pete’s hook shots, Red’s driving lay-ups, Lurr’s one-handers from the corner, Bocky’s set shots, and Paul’s driving one-handers accounted for more than 75% of the team’s points. The two outstanding subs were Jack Barnett from New Jersey and sophomore Paul Zigler. Jack’s long sets and Ziggy’s” jump shot were valu¬ able in tight spots. Other fellows who played often were Dick Gleason, Lou Garvin, John Prophet, Bernie Gleason, and Cousey Adams. 20
