FOOTBALL The 1950 edition of the Red Raiders brought the best season m recent years. The team’s 6-2 record earned it tenth place in Class C. In the first game the Raiders, led by co-captains Harunk and Johnston, who scored once each, humbled a favored Reading club 15-7. They continued their superlative work the following week against Lexington, with Johnston scoring one touchdown and passing for two, the first to Harunk, the second to Gleason. Gige also scored on an 85-yard jaunt off tackle. The next two games spelled disaster as we went down to defeat at the hands of Natick (14-0) and Milton (13-0). The following week, however, an aroused Raider eleven flattened a favored Hingham team, 31-0. Mason and Brickett broke into the scoring column with two touchdowns each. Harunk scored on an in¬ tercepted pass. After three scoreless periods in the Marlboro game, Mason crashed through from eight yards out to break the ice. Minutes later Russo intercepted a pass and went forty yards to make it 13-0 and an¬ other Raider victory. Next the Raiders coasted to a 26-0 win over Walpole. Speedster Brickett scored twice on long end sweeps and Drysdale and Monoghan added one each. The Raiders reached their peak Thanksgiving morning on Needham’s Memorial Field, trouncing their arch rival 18-0. Early in the second period a long pass from Dick Gleason to Pete Gallerani, sprawled on his back in the end zone, gave the Raiders a 6-0 lead. Monaghan scored once in each half on bull-like rushes to spark the team to its fourth straight win. The team outicored eight opponents 128 points to 40. Gige Harunk and Mai Brickett were the high scorers with 27 and 24 point - respectively. 17
