v v v s v £. v V c WVNeL c Vsi y , v: X x} $ A_ i i ' IT IS US, WE, YOU, AND ME. WE ARE ALL SOMEBODY DIFFERENT. WE MAY BE OF THE SAME SEX, RACE, OR RELIGION, BUT NO TWO PEOPLE ARE ALIKE. THAT'S HOW IT IS HERE AT WELEETKA HIGH SCHOOL. WE ARE INDIVIDUALS. WE HAVE OUR OWN OUTLOOK ON LIFE. WE ARE AT W. H. S. TO LEARN NOT ONLY EDUCATIONAL THINGS, BUT THINGS WE WILL NEED TO KNOW ONCE WE GO OUT TO FACE SOCIETY. WE LEARN THAT WE ARE PEOPLE. 2 Is, Is “Us WE LEARN ABOUT ONE ANOTHER. WE LEARN TO HAVE RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER. WE LEARN TO FACE REALITY AND NOT TO RUN FROM IT. BUT, MOST OF ALL, WE LEARN HOW TO BE OURSELVES. ■ WE DO NOT HAVE THE SAME FEELINGS OR INTERESTS, BUT WE ALL WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE ONE. THIS IS WHAT WE, THE YEARBOOK STAFF, SHALL TRY TO PORTRAY IN THIS ANNUAL. BECAUSE AT WELEETKA, EACH PERSON IS A PART OF US . 3 r' '- vfrt •- . :,w? We Shall Students at Welcctka have their own areas of interest. It is in these areas that they give and do their best. Not every- one plays football, participates in plays, or marches in the band, but all arc given the opportunities to use their talents. Ivan Drake running for a touch- down against Wctumka. With the dedication of the teaching staff combined with the determination of the students, we are given the very best opportunity to succeed. On most occa- sions we do succeed, but at all times, we give our best. Part of the play cast during a break. The Secret to Tne annual staff working on class pictures. At Weleetka we learn a variety of things. We learn to cook with Miss Hayes. We become mad scientists with Mr. Haynes. We become future Globe- trotters with Mr. Pugh. We learn how to speak in front of people and correctly with Mr. Capps, Mr. Porter, and Mr. Challis. Kindergarten students playing with a puppy. Success Is Work Sixth graders working on math lessons. We become more complete young people with the help of these, and many more. All of their help and guidance would be useless without the students' desire to succeed. Success takes work, and we do work. We work to succeed. Geography time for grade school students. 7 Still life in chalk for high school artists. The purpose of this organization is to strive to give practical meaning to the society's dedication to character, scholarship, leadership, and service. Membership is the society is recognized as one of the highest honors that can be gained by a high school junior or senior. This year the National Honor Society has started a scholarship program. The scholarship will be given to some out- standing senior who meets many of the same character, scholarship, leadership, and service qualities that are the main goals of N.H.S. The society also sponsors many other activities in and outside of school. This year's mem- bers are; FRONT ROW, Regina Wind, Marva Ellard, Louise Whitehom, Marla Hull, and Susie Thomason. HACK ROW, Dwain Whitehouse, Glen Johnson, and Brian Carroll. The N.H.S. is sponsored by Mrs. Max Winters, Mrs. Sharon Haynes, Mrs. Diane Weger, and Mr. W. L. Smith. 14 Student Council The Student Council began it's first full year of existance this year. After the constitution was approved last year, an interim council served until this year's members were elected. Representatives from the freshmen class are Damita Posey, Mechelle Morris and Linda Williams. Sophomores are Brenda Witham, Billy Brown, and Jo Mark. Juniors elected are Kale Combs, Candyes Burden, and Karen Quinton. Seniors are Dwain Whitehouse, Louise Whitehorn, and Marva Ellard. The Student Council has sponsored this year's Veteran's Day Program and a Homecoming half-time, assisted by the band. A resolution was adopted to work with the National Honor Society on any projects which could be better served by both. Members FROM LEFT TO RIGHT are: BOTTOM ROW; Billy Brown, Karen Quinton, Candye Burden, Kale Combs, Mechelle Morris, and Damita Posey. TOP ROW; Brenda Witham, Louise Whitehorn, Dwain Whitehouse, Marva Ellard, and Linda Williams. The Student Council is sponsored by Mr. Jerry Porter. 15 We succeed. We learn. We work. Finally, we have become what we've claimed to be for all of our years at Weleetka, an Outlaw. Along with the name comes the responsibility of living up to it. The Seniors have had their years to become someone who knows what to do and when to do it. All others still have a chance to make their place. A chance to be an Outlaw. Organization at Weleetka is dedicated to providing better communication between the community and the farmer. These young men sponsor many activities involving not only themselves, but many adults in the community. Many of these boys attend many livestock shows, sales, and contests to improve their knowledge of the farm and the modem farmer. This year, as in years in the past, the F.F.A. members are saving their funds to sponsor the annual Father-Son Banquet. This organization is sponsored by Mr. Gene Hodgens. 40 Future Homemakers of America The F. H. A. Organization is dedicated to making tomorrow a better place to live in. They not only travel to surrounding cities for sub-district rallies, but in the spring these young women travel to Oklahoma City to attend the state convention held there annually. Each member of F.H.A. has, or is, participating in Home Economics. Here they learn not only the domestic skills of life, but ways in which they can contribute to others, as well as themselves. The organization was sponsored first semester by Mrs. Sandra Winters and is sponsored this semester by Miss Hayes. Alumni Hold 4th Annual Banquet WELEETKA ALUMNI OFFICERS: (STANDING LEFT TO RIGHT) President Clarence Norman and Treasurer Bob Johnson, (SITTING, LEFT TO RIGHT) Secretary Bertie Coggbum and Vice President Polly Everett. The alumni committee of W. H. S. were very proud to present their new annual pub- lication, THE PURPLE AND GOLD for the first time this fall. Likewise, they were extremely pleased with the attendance for their meeting and banquet at Fountainhead Lodge at Lake Eufaula on Friday, November 24, 1972. The banquet chairmen were as follows: Greeting . . Birdie Coggbum Registration . Elois Burden Decorations . Alice McKinney Transportation David Puckett Photography . Frank Challis Election. . . Caswell Carter Perhaps one of the greatest a- chievements of the alumni is their scholarship program. Each year the board selects one graduating senior for a schol- arship with a minimum of $250.00 and a maximum of $2,000.00 for the purpose of aiding and reserving prospective students to attain a higher ed- ucation. However, this wonderful pro- gram depends upon the support of all alumni members. Their checks are welcome any time of the year and should be made payable to Weleetka Scholar- ship Fund and mailed to P. O. Box 518, Weleetka, Oklahoma. Scholarship checks were presented to Sammy Parton and Ricky Dwiggins by Alice McKinney, Chairman of the Weleetka Alumni Scholarship Board. Karen Walker (Not Shown) received the 1972 scholarship award.
