The PUBLISHED BY STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE CLASSES OF WELEETKA HIGH SCHOOL FOREWORD The Outlaw Staff has attempted to bring you the memories of 1962-63 in this yearbook. We hope to make these memories live in the hearts of every student of Weleetka High School. As the years go by, we hope this annual will help you remember the events of this wonderful year; a year we will not forget for there will never be another like it. We hope you enjoy THE OUTLAW . It was ours for almost a year. Now it belongs to you! We have, indeed been fortunate in having high type men interested in the welfare of the boys and girls, to serve on the school board. The men whose pictures you observe on this page are now serving as members and are dedicated to the proposition that those who attend our schools deserve the best. Therefore, the general welfare of our stu- dents motivates these gentlemen in every decision they make. We, can justly be proud of the products of their labors. Loyalty, integrity, unselfishness, and the interest of the people of this community characterize these men. We, the students of the Weleetka School, sincerely appreciate their efforts in our behalf; and in appreciation for these efforts, so hereby dedicate this 1963 yearbook to the Weleetka Board of Education. WE HONOR T HE STOGNER’S We honor you, Mr. and Mrs. Stogner, for the help which you have extended in all areas of instruction. Your words and your examples have been both instructional and inspirational. In church, on field or court, on the street or in class your constant effort has been to help us as we change - that we may change for the better - that we may improve. You knew (all along) that we could make this place, or any place better by improving ourselves. We are aware of and appre- ciative of your efforts in this direction. For this we say Thank You Stogners! Students of W. H. S. TO THE CLASS OF 1963: I cannot help wondering what awaits you as you leave these halls and become self-sustaining citizens in this world of ours. You face a world in which technilogical develop- ments have far over-shadowed the spiritual. We know that this ever-widening gap must be closed lest we annihilate ourselves in this misconception of prog- ress ! Nothing is so vital to the peace of our world than the spiritual and academic education of our youth. Yours will not be an easy task but we, who have worked with you these past twelve years, have the ut- most confidence inyou. We feel that you have the sturdy independence and unbridled initative of our fore-fathers and, will meet the challenge that confronts you. May God grant you the courage, wisdom, and self- reliance to maintain the great American heritage which is yours. Sincerely, WELEETKA, OKLAHOMA School Year, 1962-63 TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Inherent in the concept of Democracy, is the need for an enlightened citizenry. As our technology, population and problems increase, the necessity for education mounts. Just as challenges and opportunities are continuously recurring.events in our lives, so education and preparation must be continuous lest we fall behind. It has been our purpose and fervent hope that the opportunities offered by our school would provide the basic, essential preparation for the challenges of the immediate future - and that you would press forward and on in your persuit of knowledge; that the strength of your character and personality might be felt in lat- er life in an even greater way than it was here at Weleetka High School. EARL COWHERD ° '.S Coach Puckett Coach Stogner The school year rolls around and it’s time for another round-up of athletes... athletes who are willing to sacrifice, work hard, and keep alive that old Outlaw spirit. On the first day of practice, we hurry from the locker room, impatient to start our first workout. Throughout the season we thrill to the challenge of worthy opponents. Between games we practice long weary hours, and the pay off comes when we face our arch rivals. Another victory for W. H.S. After each game, we glory in an invigorating shower, our aches and pains forgotten as we replay the game in our memories. We drop into bed dead tired after a game well fought. The next day we are proud to say we did our best and are ready for another night... another game. We like to think of our athletic program as an integral part of Weleetka High School. As in previous years, practically all of the high school students participate in some phase of the program ... football, basketball, track, weight lifting, or intramural sports. This year a full physical fitness program is being carried on from the first grade on through the school. If our students graduate from our school with a sense of fair play and good sportsmanship, we hope athletics will get some credit for that phase of their development. We hope you've enjoyed every step of the way. There were no onlookers in this parade. Everyone was a participant. Each teacher led his band of students through the crowded streets. Through these streets of Learning and Knowledge, marched triumphant students. Waving their banners and singing their school song, the upper classmen and lower classmen alike, are one in spirit, truth, and loyalty to dear Weleetka High ... There were approximately 400 people in this long parade; but soon 32 of them will turn and march into the street of the Future. Confronting them is all the anticipation, bewilderment and aspiration associated with innovation - a new life, a new parade in life. They are leaving behind their fellow students and marching away. Some may fall out of step, and some may change their course. But the parade will still go on. Yes, the students of Weleetka's parade will keep marching, marching, march- ing from today into tomorrow; from here into the future.
