PRINCIPAL TO THE CLASS OF 1969- Congratulations and best wishes to all of you. As you look through this yearbook—especially in years to come—you will see yourselves, your teachers and your school frozen in time. According to this book, you will always be young—you will always remain as you are today. In reality, time will pass—and quickly, too. You will go on in life to schools, to marriage, to work, to war (unless we can change man's ways), to life and to death. Five—ten—twenty-five years from now—what will your position and condition in life be? Whatever the future brings, I personally hope it brings you much happiness and success—not only in worldly goods but in terms of human values. I hope you will be able to count among your assets a large amount of love from and for other people. This can be true for you only if you are now concerned about yourself as a person and other people as human beings. If you respect yourself enough you will always be inclined to respect the rights, property and dignity of other people. This in turn will guarantee that—no matter what troubles life brings—you will have the inner strength to cope with it. I have tried to be an example of concern for others. I now ask you to continue this as a way of life. I believe that if each of us tries, we can change the world to be a better place. Finally, I ask that you remember us, teachers and friends, for what we tried to be and do for you. We wished you the best and we do now as you leave us. Farewell—May you find peace and happiness wherever you go. John A. McLennan

SUPERINTENDENT Without doubt, one of the greatest gifts bestowed upon each of us is the human mind. It has the capacity to doubt and to believe, to reach out into distant space and to deceive itself about the simplest things, to conceive the highest ethical standard and to plot the most evil deed, to construct a sonnet and to build a financial empire. It is capable of greatness and it is capable of folly. Use this great gift, use it often, and try always to use it toward a good end. In addition to success for the future I also want to wish you a life that will be filled with dignity and meaning. Good luck and congratulations. 28 William A. Kinzler

MR. CLINTON SPAHR 1969 marked thirty years of service in the Farmingdale school district by Mr. Spahr, the senior member of FHS's three assistant principals. It has been thirty active years with many outstanding ac- complishments. Mr. Spahr began his long career with fifteen years in the classroom as an English teacher. He later served as head of the English department and for the last fifteen years, except for 1956, when he served as acting principal, he has held the position of as- sistant principal in the high school. His two most prominent achievements have been for the school and community. For the school, it was Mr. Spahr who started the Daler Skyline, our school newspaper. As the newspaper's first advisor, he helped it to grow and to take its place in school affairs. The Daler Skyline is now an established and respected school publication in- volved in every aspect of school activities and expanding its talents outside of the school. Perhaps Mr. Spahr's greatest accomplishment was the greatest opportunity offered to the community by the school. It was Mr. Spahr who started the first Adult Education Courses and for two years was its director. These courses gave adults the opportu- nity to continue their education in one form or another, as well as offering recreational, hobby or special interest courses. Mr. Spahr has at one time held a senior position to many of the men of responsible positions in the school district, including Dr. Kinzler, Mr. Manso and many others. His years of experience and knowledge still surpass those who work with him. He is a man greatly respected and admired by all who know him and work with him. His thirty successful years are due entirely to the type of man he is. 30
