At evelen o'clock the Junior girls and their escorts formed the Grand March and amid the suspenseful silence Nancy Allard, Queen of 1950, announced the Queen and her attendants. Second row, Ruggiero, Floyd, Kranzler, Sauer Finger Donolli, Van Arnam, Manager. Farmingdale High School, for the first time in history, won the Nassau County Baseball Championship as the result of wonderful team play and the superlative pitching of Lou Portocarrero. After dropping the first four games of the season by one run scores, the team pulled itself together and won thirteen straight games. On June 5, Lou pitched a one-hitter against Manhasset to win the North Shore Championship 6-0, and on June 8 he came back to the mound and pitched a two- hitter against Sewanhaka to win the Nassau County Championship 3-0. The team fielded beautifully behind him and came through with some solid and timely hit- ting. lt was the opinion of many coaches and sportswriters that Farmingdale had one of the finest and best-balanced baseball teams ever to play on the Island. 92 Baseball Champions 1 ,a a Farmingdale Farmingdale Farmingdale Farmingdale Farmingdale Farmingdale Farmingdale Farmingdale Farmingdale Farmingdale Farmingdale Farmingdale Farmingdale Farmingdale Farmingdale Record - l 95'l 1 4 l 2 3 9 13 2 9 7 6 9 ll 3 4 Glen Cove Manhasset Babylon Westbury Oyster Bay Oyster Bay St. Dominic's Hicksville Sea Cliff Hicksville St. Dominic's Sea Clif? Girls' Sportsnight The spark of rivalry was kindled once again between the Green and the White teams in their annual competitive Girls' Sportsnight. Following an address made by Nancy Finger, this year's Girls' Leaders Club President, the show began with Yvette Willford and Valerie Foote presenting their U. S. S. White Team with its fighting seaman's spirit. The Green Team was next with their pirate ship so true, ready to cut down the Whites with their cutlasses of sportsmanship. Dotty Schiener and Rose Tedesco were the Captain and Co-Captain of the iolly Green Roger . The evening included cheering, tumbling, volleyball, calisthenics, relays, marching, and basketball. In a silent hush, the Whites were proclaimed the victors of the evening. The ofticers of this 1952 Sportsnight chose the elected omcers for next year: Joan Kiendle, President of Girls' Leaders Club, Sheilah Condon, Captain, and Ruthe Hewlett, Co-Captain, of Green Team, Bernie Chirichella, Captain, and Jackie Adamo, Co-Captain of White Team. With the tribute songs and the finale, the curtain descended on a top-notch show, true sportsmanship and two wonderful teams-Green and White.
