X l CLASS HISTORY It came to pass in the fullness of t1me that the class of 1942 drd gather upon the first day of September for a trip through welch dlgh School, nuch famed for its d1SS8m1D8tl0D of knowledge They had collected a goodly amount of baggage, rn the way of b1ts of geography sections of arithmetic, bunches of dates fresh from the tree of history, packages of civics and a supply of grammar Each, moreover, had the required ticket a certrficate of promotron from the last stat1on, the Eighth Grade And it came to pass that promptly upon the stroke of n1ne 41 members d1d an wer the con ductor's cr, of 'All aboard' They were g1ven places in the Freshmen sectxon, and they found the train equxpped with a f1ne dlhlllg c r whose capable chef supplxed them w th much food for their mental growth and development They dmc choose 1. president o thxs Freshmen group, Jimmye Lou Dobkins who should see that they galned Sll.lf1C18Dt class pep 105 alty :JIG also school spirit, wh11e conductor Joe Peek saw to it that they properly ingested the meals served hem by the Faculty Chefs and Porters Chef .T J' Geeks was chosen sponsol At the end of the first year, hevlng succe sfully met the requirements of Freshman pass engers, they were transferred to the Sophomore car w1th a mem.bers'up of 31 thirteen members having dropped off because of the jolt1n.g of the traln of knov ledge Bob Thompson transferred to our car at th1s t1me Belva Lafferty was chosen president under the cap ble leadersh1p of a new conductor, Mr L R Thompson The journey was livened by stops for a number of parties and occasions of garty under the sponsorship of .Tessye Chastaln Pranks were frequently 1ndul 4 4 -'AY Ylvnnn .-:-:-:-:':-:-:-:-:-:1:i:5:5:5'I'fl . . - -. ged 1n when the conductor and chefs were looking after other sectrons of the trarn R With the pass1ng of t1me they were agaln shlfted, berng placed 1D the .Tumor Coach wxth 27 jolly members of whom passenger, Bob Thompson was elected president w1th Mrs Paul Hecger as sponsor who was later succeeded by MISS Katherine Simmons Much enjoyed stops at Pleasure Resorts included the .Tumor Play, L1amna's Baby ggi, and the J'un1or and Senlor Banquet side trips were indulged in, to the Athletic Fields vhere numberous passengers became profxcient ln softball, basketball and other gem es The mental food contarned many morsels hard to chew and digest, but with the Faculty Chef declerxng that It must be accomplished or uc'l1 throw you, off the train' The .Tumor passengers nobly d1d the1r duty Then came the happy day when the group was transferred to the Senior Coach with lncx-eased privileges and respons1bi1ities B111 MCN911S was elected as class president and ms Aheatley sponsor The grade became steeper, the journey rougher, but ah the glorxous view as the class of 1946 looked out on Commencement Station looming rn the distance These Senior passengers, numberzmng 22, who had been companions durlng the long Journey became even more closely united They came to appreciate more fully the sxpervision grven them by Conductor Thompson they enj oyed stops made for the Senior Class Play Tumblmn' Creek, and the Junior and Sem or Banquet They yew quite puffed up over the records of certain members in the thletic Flelds They successfully passed the close inspection of the exariners who checked up on their baggage of knfmledge and they now stand ready for a final transfer During the 4 years journey the followlng boys entered the Armed services Dale Shere, Everett Broyles, Robert Gardner, James lynn, Bill Karnes, .Toe ward, Wilbur Yhindle, Bud Tomlin son, and Donald Cleveland At Commencement Stat1on they leave the Senior Coach to become passengers on various roads leading through the Valley of Opportunity to the Cities of Success Fame, and worthy achieve 'lent 4 ::w'N Z'WZ'.
