CLASS HISTORY In the year of 1913 a class of 16 members was ushered into the study hall This class was des tmed to play an important role in the history of the Welch Hlgh School Oi course we were meek mild tender and green but we overcame all the characterlstics and became accustomed to the senior s superior ways and the sophomores knowing smiles We began our studies with a determination that latel we too should have occasion to look down on the l reshmen with smiles of contempt In the fall of 1914 we entered the High School as Sophomores This prow l to be a wry suc cesstul year for our class despite the fact that we lost several of our members As Juniors we were thirteen three girls and ten boys We were considered studxous yet ready lor anv fun that came our way About the first of March the Seniors displayed their pennant on the wall of the study hall The next morning as the Seniors came into the study hall each one glanced morning the Senior pennant had disappeared Our last stunt of the season was the Junior Senior Banquet at w hich the pennant was pres ented with our compliments to the Senior Class At last came the fall of 1916 the long looked for year of the Seniors Manx things were changed Prof S W Black came as our new Superintendent As there were now only seven members in the gradu iting class Mary Jo Fowler who came here from Tishomlngo recened a he arty w elcome w hen she enrolled as a Senior Our four years of High School work has been very pleasant VM hfuc not only learned many things w hich will help us on the thorny path of life but we haxe welded togcther 1 golden chain of friends which cannot be forgotten In sadness we leaxe our dear old High School but we haxe the glad consciousness of know ing that we leave behind us a blazed trail of achievements which will not be forgotten in the yeals to come. CLASS PROPHECY As I reallzed the end of the year 1917 was so near a sadness came over me when readmg whlle slttlng 1n a chalr near an open wlndow and I began to ponder over the future ot my classmates VN lule I sat there the book fell from my hands my eves closed and a w ISIOII came to me 1n mv dreams The hrst thlng I saw as the v1s1on became somewhat clearer was a great battle field I heard the roal of guns and saw the fire of the enemy a slght I had nex er expected to behold passed before me 0n the ground I beheld a wounded captaln whom I found to be f,x01d0II Talley B9IId1IIg' over lum I saw another gentle figure on whose arm was emblaaoned a Red Lross the slgn of her noble callmg In tones that were soft and steps stlll softer I recogmaed my former classmate Hatt1e Barnes Th1s scene hay mg sllpped from my v1s1on I beheld a stage At Hlst I thought I was m falrv land tol a malden appeared wlth talse curls and flvmg crlnkled ballet Sk1I'tS As she danced to the Thls stage scene seemed to change mto the 1nter1o1 of a church In the pulplt stood a stately d rrk haned dark eyed mlmster deln e11ng the Word of bod to the people I reeognmed at once the deep resonant Volce of my Sen1o1 classmate Harry Stroud Thls scene passmg I saw a receptlon hall all decorated 1n floss ers and heard the soft strams of muslc Into tlus scene came Madallne Pyeatt wxth her haughty manner She mole a trallmg gown of black velvet wx 1th d1amonds flashmg about her elaborate costume She was hostess of one of thf ltidlllg' clubs of uhlch I found she was presldent and thls stately manslon IH New York was her home Wlth one of our ex gradutes as her husband In my vlsxon I seemed to find myself IH a summer resort and IH looklng around I saw a couple strollmg along the beach Upon observlng them closer I recogmzed our fellow classmate Roy Newman enjoymg hls honeymoon m th1s ldylllc place As they passed on down the beach the vision of a popular newspaper came before me Scan nmg over the headlines I notlced an account of a great vlctory of an Amerlcan avlator over the L elmans and behold whose name should appear there but that of John R Harlm O , y . , .
