This year the Boys' Cross Country team placed 2nd in the SRV tournament held in Payette. Losing 1st place to B.K. by 1 point In District they also took 2nd place. This qualihed the team to go to State competition, , where they took 9th place. At State one of the members, David Perez, qualihed in the top 10 runners of the State. The Argus Observer also named Alan Mullins and David Perez in the top 10 runners of the valley. Good work fellas, we're real proud of you! BUYS' CRGSS CDU TRY This year our Girls' Cross Country team did a fantastic job. They worked long and hard to accomplish their goals and reached a very high peak. The Varsity team had 6 wins and 4 losses. The J.V. team had 7 wins and 3 losses. In the district tournament they had 1 win and 2 losses. Both of these teams did a great job this year. All of their practice and hard work definitely payed ofT, the final season record was 8 wins and 12 losses, a dehnite improvement over last year's record. In Tournament play we played 4 games before being eliminated. We would also like to congratulate Ron Hezeltine who was named to the District III All Star Basketball team and to Tom Johnson who was named as an alternate. Each year various special awards are given to the players, this year the following awards were given: lVlost Valuable Player, Ed Routson, lVlost Improved Player, Steve Walker, lVlost Inspirational Player, Albert Trijuillo and Ron Hezeltone, and Best Free-Throw Percentage, Tom Johnson. They took second place in the SRV and came back to win the District Championship. Kraig Hills, Jack Harris, Tony Go, Jon Schnider, Rod Johnson, Kent Hills, Stan Castagno, and Brent lVlaughan qualified to go to State. Brent, Jack, and Tony placed 4th, 3rd, and 2nd respectively. The team also brought home the third place trophy from State. The Team voted George Kautz as the lVlost Improved Wrestler, Tony Go as the lVlost Valuable Wrestler, and Rod Johnson as the lVlost Inspirational Wrestler. In April they won their division at the Ontario High School Invitational Golf Tournament. In lVlay the Snake River Valley League finished with Weiser in hrst place with 38 points, lVliddleton next with 37 points and Bishop Kelley third with 36 points. Other teams participating in the SRV League were Payette, Emmett and Vallivue At the District 111 Tournament, Weiser was first out of seven teams. Team scores were Weiser 298, lVliddleton 319, lVlcCall 330, Bishop Kelley and Payette 331. Weiser hnished the season by placing fourth in the State Tournament at Lewiston. Future Teacher's of America is an organization existing for the promotion of education. lVlembers of F.T.A. commit themselves to a wide variety of activities. The main activity members experience is the annual grade school visitation. Each student choses which school he or she wishes to attend and then they observe the various methods used by teachers in that level of education. F.T.A. also sponsors a number of other activities. As many of you lqnovv the motto throughout the preparation for the trip and during the trip was llllisneyland or Bust . During the seven days of the trip, the band vvent to lVlarineland, Disenyland, lVVhere they marched in the parade 'lAmerica on Paradenl, N.B.C. Studio, and lVlagic Mountain Cvvhere they marched in a paradel. Even though it vvas a very hectic trip, everyone had a good time harassing the chaperones and watching the expressions of people vvho were not expecting us. Q xl in The Weiser High School lVlarching Band had a very successful year in 1976. Besides all ofthe serious w 1 morning and evening practices, there vvas also provided the half-time performances at the home football games and played at most ofthe out-of-tovvn football games. On October 21st the Band vvent to Boise and participated in the lVlarching Festival. They received 2nd place in marching and 2nd place in Inspection.
