NEAL Principal ' b Education has always been a fundamental element in a democracy. ln our world today, where we have made more technological and scien- tific advances in the past 50 years than had been made in the preceeding 500 years, education assumes an even more important role. In a highly mechanized and scientific world our youth must be better educated in order to take their place in their chosen field of vocation. With a shorten- ing of the working day and the working week, it will become increasing- ly important for us to receive training in avocations and the proper use of our leisure time. The intelligent youth of today then will select his courses so as to not only train himself for a specific field, but also broaden his general background. 1 LLOYD J. COACH LOC KYER DARREL DUNCAN Sr. Guard Jr. Forward JOE KARMOS Sr. Forward, Captain DENNISS SOLT Sr. Guard With only one letterman returning, the Wol- verines were faced with a rebuilding problem. Joe Karmos, one of the most outstanding players in the conference and our only letterman, was selected as the team's captain. Joefs determina- tion, desire, and leadership were constant inspira- tions to the squad. Among the other candidates were only three seniors-Denniss Solt, Ke n Haraguchi, and Fred Owens. The rest of the squad was composed of juniors and sophomores. Faced with a height disadvantage and lack of experience, the squad provided a tough game for all opponents. One of the most improved players on the squad was Burt Owens, junior center. Although seeing little action, Con Ducy began to display the polish that should make him one of next year's better performers. Guy Gage and Bill Eisenbarth, two sopho- mores, turned in fine jobs and will return to next year's court wars. Hot again, cold again Darrel Duncan became the squad's best outside shot and will be a considerable threat to next year's opponents. Larry Logan, diminutive iun- ior, at 5' 6 was the best little man in the con- ference. As a hustler, he was excelled by few. Sophomore Ron Watkins started the season as one of our top rebounders. The squad as a whole should be congratulated for their fine spirit, determination, and coopera- tion. And if there is credit due to any one individ- ual, it should be the coach. His feeling toward the game of basketball has stimulated his team and invested them with an ardent spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork.
