lltls News N TllE l AI.l. of 1937 a group of students of the XVeiser High School con- vened and organized a Journalism club with Mr. VY. C. Cherrington as their faculty adviser. The club, which consists of about 25 members, meets every week for the purpose of publishing the school paper, WNY. H. S. Hi-Lites, every Friday during the school year. This publication has proven to be a great asset to the school and the student body has taken a great interest. They have joined the National Scholastic Publications Association from which they re- ceive helpful criticisms that tend to better the paper. Every semester the journalism club has a special meeting for the pur- pose of electing the various editors and assistants At the present time the staff includes: Editor-in-Chief ..................................,...... ......,. The -lournalism Club of 1937-1938 held many parties-skat- ing and hiking, and banquets. The emblem chosen by the members to signify their being in the hlournal- ism Club is a small bronze quill and ink-well. lt is our sincerest wish and deepest hope that this club of 1937-1938 will firmly establish a Journalism Club in XYeiser High School for many years to come. The members of the club are: hlim Atteberry, lfreida Atteberry, Shirley Austin, Allen Barrows, Phyllis llruggeman, llob llerntson, llonnie ,lean Coats, Rose Clabby. lletty Couper, Nita Chandler, Dorothy Cutting, Klary l.ou Cope, Marshall Dillon, lletty Diamond, ,lim llonart. Gllee Clubs -...,5g3....- HE YEAR of 1937-38 has been one of growth for the XY. H. S. music de- partment. After the usual beginning agonies, the vocal groups settled down to do real work and practice. The Glee Clubs were divided into boys' and girls' groups and one group of advanced students in the Mixed Chorus. All of these groups took an active part in the operetta The llelle of Bagdadf' a three-act comedy, which was a complete success through the labors of Mr. Potter and, of course, the cast of 100. The department has also furnished countless solos and small musical groups for such organizations as the Lions and Kiwanis. Vl'ith the interest which has been manifest this year we are quite sure that Olll' department will be even more active next year.
