Basketball llli students of Weiser lligh showed their interest in the game of basket- ball by making the number of students at the first meeting over seventy. Prom this 11umber Coach McClure picked ten of the best, four lettermen from last year, to represent XYeiser as their team. Our new gym was opened with a lfrolie, in which the Emmett, Payette, and Ontario teams participted. Our first scheduled game was with limmett, December 10, 1937. 19 Football TARTING the football season with a bang, Coach McClure had fifty-four candidates out for practice including eleven lettermen who were back from last year. That our victories were few was due to the fact that the Coach had a very light and inexperienced team to take the field against our much stronger and heavier worthy opponents. Twenty players made their letters-Bowling, Johnston, Aldred, Brown, Maddox, Raney, Harris, Hovde, Benson, Muir, Hansen, McCord, Daggett, Bridges, Smith, Glasby, XVatkins, Fochtman, lYhiting, and Shanafelt. Out of these there were nine Seniors, seven Juniors, two Sophomores, two Freshmen. At the annual football banquet, McCord turned over his rank as Captain to VVatkins, who was elected Captain for next year's team. Coach McClure also gave a gold football fob to Larry Muir, who was chosen at the best worker, cleanest sport, and hardest fighter.
