We have done our l6 tons and what do we have? Have we just collected our wages and merely existed or have we contributed something to the service of our fellows? Common laborers can tear down a building in a very short time but it takes more than labor, as well as continuous hours of work, to erect new ones . Aren't we all engaged in a task of building castles? How well we build will deter- mine the beauty and usefulness of the building. So at this time of re-check- ing our past year let us note our progress as well as our errors and continue to build our castle so that in time we shall have a beautiful structure, one which we shall be proud to own. I wish for all of you the best of success . Your Superintendent, Paul M. Maxwell -.fx 14- W- .vm-av: --.- . la- Ea .. .- - -A W , ..-M' FA. W f , , ,gym A! V Uffzgig , 1 1 21 S3314 4 1 ,-,wx . THIRD ROW: George Vanderpool, Bill Gowans, Louis Newport, Robert Richards, john Lloyd, Leonard Blake. For the first time in several years the Weir football squad failed to win a game. The 1955-56 version lost a total of eight games. lnexperience and lack of players were probably the chief reasons for the Wildcats poor showing this year. The Blue and Gold had only l7 boys out, with four of these boys being freshmen. 'lhere were altogether, only nine boys that had seen action before in a football contest. Five seniors gained letters this year. These include Bill Ohmsieder, Don Matter, Bob Martin, Larry Larson, and jack Hodgson. Hodgson and Larson also served as co-captains for the football campaign. Fred Martin, Leonard Blake, jay D. Shaw, George Vanderpool, Don Fisher, Frank Brock, john Lloyd, Larry Wallace, Don Fromong, and Robert Richards were the others to receive letters. Bill Ohmsieder made the Mineral Belt League second team as center, while Don Matter, Larry Larson, john Lloyd, and jack Hodgson received honorable mention in the M.B.L. Poll. The Wildcats three best games of the year were against Mineral, St. Pats, and Cherokee, as in each of these games the Weir gridders made a battle of it all the way. I :eo Q L V. X. This year the Weir Midget Wildcats had a very successful season. They won 15 out of 18 games and finished second in the league. In tournament play they took two first place trophies and one second place trophy. The Regulars won fourth in the league tournament and fourth place in league standing. 'rg My 5 , ' . Although the 1955-56 edition of the Weir squad did not win as many contests as in the preceding year, the season was considered to be fairly suc- cessful. Weir won a total of seven games and lost ten. The Weir netters lost a number of close con- tests and proved themselves capable in every en- counter. A total of ten boys will receive letters this year. They are as follows: Seniors: Bill Ohmsleder, Bob Martin, Jack Hodgson, Larry Larson, and Don Matter. Juniors: Fred Martin, Phillip O'Malley, and J. D. Shaw. Sophomores: Don Fisher and john Lloyd . Bill Ohmsleder was the leading scorer and rebounder for the Blue and Gold and received the distinction of being named to the Mineral Belt League all-star team . Bob Martin was honored by a berth on the Mineral Belt League all-star second team, and Don Fisher received honorable mention . ff WO iq ' 4 x A X y ? X 41: ! E 1 Track FRONT ROW, Left to Right: Mr-. As the annual goes to press before the l956 track season gets under way, results from last year will be printed here. The Weir trackmen fielded a strong squad during the 1955 season and won several dual and triangular meets. However in the M.B. L. meet at Pittsburg, Erie nosed out the Weir squad by 6 points to take the M.B. I... trophy. ln the M.B. I... meet firsts were garnered by Don Matter in the 220 yard dash, and Bill White in the pole vault and javelin. Also the mile relay team composed of Noel Maxwell, Leonard Blake, Bill White, and Larry Larson took first in that event. Prospects are bright for a fair season this year as several of last year's track stars will again be participating for the Blue and Gold. 4- 1 rw!! X x ' - K 5 ' '1- .'
