The 1949 edition of Weir High's football team was not successful in the number of games won. Playing with a starting team composed of underclassmen, who lacked in size and experience, a good account was given in various games. In the opening game of the season against Frontenac the Wildcats were completely outclassed and were overwhelmed 45-12. The Alumni defeated the Wildcats 6-0. Erie's powerful Red Devils smothered the Wildcats 53-O. The Wildcats then journeyed to meet the strong St. Mary's Panthers and were de- feated 57-l2. St. Mary's went on to win the league championship. The Wild- cats were the only team to score on the champions. Weir held fast to the Minden Pirates and were downed 6-O in a well played game. The Wildcats trav- eled to Alba and were beaten 43-12. The Mineral Wildcats overwhelmed us 46- 6. This was the first tins in a number of years that Weir scored on Mineral. Weir stepped out of the league and journeyed to Cherokee and were defeated 90-6 in a well played contest. In the final game of the season the Wildcats held fast to the Mulberry Tigers and were defeated 33-O. Prospects for next year's team look somewhat brighter with a larger num- ber of boys reporting for practice. Seniors that will be lost through graduation are James Thompson, Frank Vaniam, Eddie Quesnoy, and George Winters. The team elected James Thompson and Eddie Quesnoy co-captains for the closing football season Coach, W This page sponsored by the Merchants Supply Company of Pittsburg, Kansas
