Glass Prophecy The summer of 1965 was a grand season, so what could be better than to take a vacation. The desire to see my old classmates seemed to be taking shape as I met Helen Gillenwaters at Kansas City. She was working as e secretary for United Airlines. In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I saw Eddie Quesnoy, an expert mechanic. In addition to operating his automobile factory he is quite an inventor, his latest production being the nQuesnoy Super Rocket.n After about two and one-half hours of travel I landed in New York where I found George Winters, a great singer and orchestra leader in the famous Stork Club. As I was driving along Fifth Avenue, I saw Jean Ann Ross and her husband, Vernon Curtis, coming out of their beautiful man- sion. At their request I spent the night and then at early dawn I boarded a plane for Florida. To my surprise Frank VanKam was on the same plane. We had quite a visit. He told me about his wife and three children and his wonderful position as salesman for Karo syrup. Nelle June Craddock is the proprietor of the Dating Bureau at Tampa, Florida, and next to her family, it takes up most of her time. At the beach I saw Florence Penrod, who will, after her vacation, be working as a bookkeeper for the United States Steel Company. While journeying through Texas whom should I come upon but Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Vineyard, owners of a beautiful ranch. Mrs. Vineyard is bet- ter known to us as Hazel Bowman. Upon their invitation we traveled to El Paso to see the inauguration of Claudine Woods, the first woman gover- nor of Texas. Since a vacation would not be complete without seeing the movie capital of the world, I found myself entering the faramount Studios: There whom would I find but Harold Martin, who had recently taken Clark Gable's place. He told me that Wilma Sullivan was in Los Angeles. There I found her nursing at Mercy Hospital. My next stop was Nevada and there, on Bar K, a small ranch, I found Elma Jean Walters and her husband, Kenneth Knapp. They have been ranching for a number of years. By this time the summer is drawing to a close. As I journey back to the old homestead I see James Thompson, the owner of the Weir Food Market. Nellie June Barrett is teaching at the largest school in Kansas, good ole Weir High. I am now satisfied to end my trip after visiting all my friends and school chums. Since I have been traveling l have not disclosed my name. It is Betty Filby and I am a happily married housewife. . izfa 51gned2fAQS?7 iff fl A f This FUN? is sponsored by the Empire District Electric Company.
