ous ssmzoa YEAR V The opening of the 1942-43 school term found thirty-two seniors trudging their way toward'Huaportals of W.H.S. Some were trying to appear dignified and worldly-wise while others with a n1et's get it over withn attitude, greeted dkifriends and inspected new teachers. The second week of school, we seniors gave the freshmen their innitial initiation into the secondary school system. The ngreenn freshie boys were compelled to wear excess make- up on their faces, eat onions and wear onions and garlic a- round their necks as ornaments. If odor has any power, the Nfreshiasn were off to a 'strong' start. The freshmen girls wore 'abbreviated' costumes and their hair hung in pigtails. Glamour wasn't the word to describe these young lassies. To climax the freshmen's entrance to our high school, we enter- tained them with a party in the gymnasium on Friday night. Since we were upperclassmen, we feltwe were entitled to a day of recreation while our other lower classmates remained in school. A self declared holiday'wEEIe others have to Wong always seems more enjoyable. In the morning of this parti- cular October 'Sklp Dayn, the senior boys went hunting. They say they hunted for squirrels but we wonder? All of our ch s and our sponsor attended the show, nGone with the Wind',that afternoon in Pittsburg. The last of November,' Weir High had its annual school carnival. The event of great interest connected with the carnival each year is the 'Popularity Queen Contestn. Our senior representative, Gloria Kelso, won this honor. I Our class pictures were taken early kxthe fall and from the results, we either had a very good photographer or we just photograph well. Who knows, we might be new Hollywood material waiting to be ndiscoveredn. One of our classfhmeos liked a certain senior g1rl's picture mamuch that he ordered and paid for one of her for his 'very own'. December was an eventful month for the seniors. We received our class rings about the first of tnemonth of our class play, nMiss Smartyw was presented on December the seventeenth.
