Because after all, the Class of 1989 will be the Only One Of It’s Kind! But even though you are different, you are similar in so many ways to the young men and women who have gone on be fore you. Similar in that you have passed the necessary courses, earned the required credits and have been approved to receive a New Jersey High School Diploma. But you are different because your experiences and career choices will take you down different paths than those of your predecessors. I can only ask that you chose your path with care, sincerity and after much thought; that you not let the ills and evil of this word deter you from the path you choose. I also ask that you travel along your path representing W eequahic High School with dignity and pride and in such a manner that the path you pave makes it easier for those who come after you. Our Attendance Coordinator, Janet Sage, her staff of Attendance Counselors, Teachers, Adminis- trators, PTA-President, Donald Bradley, Parents, and Students are all working together to alleviate, if not eliminate the problem. It also gives students an opportunity to draw pictures and do computer art- work. When students write their own poetry, they learn to concentrate and pay close attention to each stanza, line, and word. They learn that vital meaning and power can be packed into a single word. They learn that poetry has form and that they must set up their ideas in recognizable patterns of syllables and lines. They also learn about the language of poetry and become more aware of its visual appeal. When students write their own short stories, they learn to de- scribe their characters and the setting clearly. They learn to develop a plot that presents and resolves a conflict. They learn to maintain a consistent point of view and a chronological time order. They also learn to write dialogue where appropriate. When students write their own plays, they learn about dialogue and stage directions. They also learn about staging a play which in- volves scenery, costumes, lighting, and props as well as the activities of the actors. By drawing pictures and doing computer artwork, students learn to express themselves in a form other than the written word. The students learn to correlate their artistic talents with the themes developed in the written form. By putting into practice what they have learned in the classroom, students develop a greater appreciation for literature and art. They learn to express their fears, frustrations, hopes, and dreams and are rewarded knowing that they themselves produced something of val- ue. They can take pride in sharing their work with others, and they learn to appreciate the effort that goes into all literary works. The Baseball Indians had a great season in 1989. We won the City Championship on the Last day of the Season. We also won two big games in the State Tournament and came very close to winning the State Title. Coach - Bill Hicks improved his five season record to 77 wins and 35 defeats. The 789 Indians will count on Marquis Porter, our All City Pitcher with two No-Hitters to provide that needed pitching strength for the Winning Indians! Keith Williams, Jim Montgomery, Jim O'Neal, Roland Tucker, and a return of Charles Pomplin will also aid to our offense. Spencer Daniel will round out the starters from last year. We look for Keith Lewis, Demetrius McQueen, Tim Smith and Ron Wilson to help improve our 19-7 win and loss record. Our players will be working very hard to keep Wee- quahic on top. AS THE WORLD TURNS, I just keep thinking about my broken withered heart... all started years ago in my cottage home in SANTA BARB. AR. A. She was all that I had hoped for; LOVING, caring for ALL MY CHILDREN as though they were her very own. Always being there for me even when agony seemed to force me into ANOTHER WORLD. One day however, she left me vowing never to return. Why, I don't know. Her excuse was she only had ONE LIFE TO LIVE. I understood exactly what she was going through, but her relatives the RYANS HOPE that we get back together soon. I doubt it! Well, I say so sorrily. These are THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES, we live with THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and we are the BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. Even though our relationship has been on the rocks, she left me a DYNASTY near FALCON CREST. Although 1 miss her, THE GUIDING LIGHT of our separation has set in; which means 1 no longer have to rush to GENERAL HOSPITAL with a broken heart. Due to the fact that her memory lives within me, everytime I see some of the things she’s given me, РИ be moving to DALLAS next month to stay with my in- does THE COLBYS' who reside on 410 KNOTS LANDING ROAD. With all that behind me, I hope I will be accepted with open arms which will comfort and morally support me and forever end my SEARC H FOR TOMORROW.
