HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION The department goals in the area of health are to develop fundamental skills essential to personal fulfillment such as: reading, thinking logically critically, and communicating effectively. Throughout the four years of Health Education we have tried to input values, interests, and habits, which are founded upon sound ethics, spiritual and moral concepts. We also want each student to develop skills that will help recognize problems and the possible wise solution. In Physical Education classes the goal is to give the greatest possible development to a pupil's physical powers, habits and character. In accomplishing this goal the department will exercise initiative, ingenuity and creativity. The Physical Education Department tries to develop an awareness and a set of experiences, which will promote characteristics of good sportsmanship, honesty and cooperation. Health services are largely the responsibility of the school nurse, but effective delivery of these services requires the cooperative efforts of the school administrators and the entire school body. The school nurse is a health service specialist who assists pupils and staff in attaining and or maintaining optimum health and promotes positive health habits and atttitudes. When we need more than the guidance counselors can offer, we can always rely on Mrs. Connie White or Ms. Lorraine White. They not only offer advice, but a friendly ear as well. Mrs. C. White helps us deal with personal and social problems, while Ms. L. White helps us deal with the growing problems of drugs. 15
