Executive Superintendent BENJAMIN O'NEAL YOUR YEARS AT WEEQUA-HIC HIGH SCHOOL ARE NOW PAST AND ARE RELEGATED TO MEMORIES, BUT YOU WILL ALWAYS BE PART OF THIS SCHOOL. JUST AS IT WILL BE PART OF YOU. WISHING YOU STRENGTH TO DO WELL AND WISDOM TO BE POSITIVE AND COURAGE TO GO FORWARD. BENJAMIN O’NEAL VICE PRINCIPALS SUCCESS IS GOING FROM FAILURE TO FAILURE WITHOUT LOSS OF ENTHUSIASM SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL IT S ALWAYS NECESSARY FOR ME TO HAVE A STARTING PLACE. THIS QUOTE IS THAT. THE POINT IS NOT THAT ANY OF US IS A FAILURE; BUT RATHER. WE ARE NOT. AND SHOULD NOT BE STOPPED IN OUR TRACKS BY ANY ONE FAILURE. THERE WILL BE FAILURES; THERE WILL BE RE-DIRECTION OF GOALS; THERE WILL BE TIMES WHEN WE ARE POWERLESS TO CHANGE THAT THAT MUST BE CHANGED. NEVERTHELESS. WE MUST GO ON AND ON AND ON. ENTHUSIASM ALLOWS US TO GO—ON AND ON AND ON. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO MAINTAIN A SENSE OF ENTHUSIASM: TO WORK THROUGH WHATEVER OBSTACLES MAY BE IN THE PLACE TO THWART YOUR SUCCESS; TO ACCEPT SOME FAILURES. BUT TO KEEP IN MIND YOUR ULTIMATE GOALS. I BELIEVE IN THE WORK ETHIC. I WOULD HOPE THAT YOU WOULD. TOO. AND. ULTIMATELY. I ASK THAT YOU WORK TO ENJOY LIFE. IT SHOULD BE A GOOD TIME. JEANNE N. OPPEL JEANNE N OPPEL Congratulations on the completion of another milestone in your lives. Everyone here at Wee-quahic High School has tried to prepare you for the future. When opportunity presents itself, those who are prepared are most likely to take advantage of it. Set your sights high on your goals, your wishes, and your ambitions. Strive always to be the best you can. My best wishes to all of you, for a bright, productive, and happy future. Good Luck! Sincerely, Louis Passanante LOUIS PASSANANTE VICE PRINCIPALS I join with the administration, faculty, staff, and students of Wee-quahic High School in saying congratulations to the graduating class of 1987. You are among the fortunate in today’s society. Fortunate because you have been able to persevere through twelve years of schools; fortunate because you did not succumb to the dropout’ statistic; and fortunate because you have chosen the path that you will follow in life - the path of success. Christian F. Hebbel, a German dramatist, wrote: Life is not anything: it is only the opportunity for something All I ask is that you seize every opportunity that presents itself to you. take from it what you need to reach your goals, mold it to fit the blueprint' you have drawn for yourself, and do the very best that you can, with whatever you have, wherever you are. ENCORE! 81 GETTING TOGETHER 84 STUDYING Getting good grades is not just a matter of having a high IQ. In fact, no matter how intelligent you are, to succeed in school you need to master a variety of practical study techniques. Study means to apply the mind to any subject in order to learn about it. Study is accomplished mostly by means of reading observation, questioning, listening, and reflection. It is an important part of the process of learning. The purpose of study is the discovery and understanding of information. As we know, effective or successful study consist of much more than merely memorizing facts. Because knowledge is important to every person, it is wise to learn how to study in the most effective way. Plan carefully how to use your time when you are least tired. Cultivate the habit of taking notes in outline form both while reading and during classroom work. Whether you are considering going to college or enrolling in a different kind of school, this summary might convince you of the need of good study skills. 86 STUDY SCALE (+ 10) I study throughout the semester. (-10) I let my studies slide until the end of the semester when I cram. (+15) over 20 hours per week for most of the semester. (-5) I do most of my studying late at night when I am tired. (+ 5) I do most of my studying in a quiet, distraction-free environment. (-5) I tend to drink alcoholic beverages while studying. (+ 5) After I understand the material, I continue studying it to insure that I remember it. (+ 5) I vary my study methods. (+ 10) I usually finish my papers and assignments ahead of time. ______________(+ 5) on time. ___________(-10) late. AISHA-LIFE By Ahsonna Muhammad There were times when we gave up hope Those, when our lives were in shambles until the moment we met Aisha And saw how much of life she gambles Life is a trying situation which Without struggle wouldn't be worth living For all the proof that's weakness In Aisha's total being But we are proud of the strength beyond That takes a special seeing By the will of the Almighty Creator She’ll pull right through this hell And live to be strong and healthy With a story of faith to tell ...
