He teas a scholar, and a ripe and good one; Exceeding wise, fair-spoken, and persuading Shakkspkari: Max J• II krzlMkr| l rin«‘i|»:il s Message A Message to the Class of January 1951: If you were asked which sort of world you’d rather live in—one where everything goes on in the same way forever, or one where almost anything can happen at any time and nothing is ever certain, you’d probably decide in favor of the latter. Fortunately or unfortunately, you have no choice. Never was the world so unsure, so dangerous, so confused. We have automobiles, TV sets, and other contraptions, but we can expect Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for jHiin as Matthew Arnold phrased it. If you like excitement, the chance to grow up fast, and the responsibility for settling mankind’s future, you’ll get all these in the next few years—and I hope and expect you won’t mind. Good luck to you all! MAX J. 1IERZBERG
