edication pHE Class of January 1948 is fortunate in having as grade adviser Mrs. Sadie Z. Rous, whose kindly influence and generous counsel have guided us for four years. During our stay at Weequahic, she has will- ingly extended help and sympathy to those who needed it. Therefore, it is to Mrs. Rous with affection and gratitude that we dedicate this Legend.

F JL o r e w o r HEN memories of the happy times and friends we make at Weequahic become dulled by adult responsibility, we, of the yearbook staff, sincerely hope that this book may fur- nish many pleasant reminiscences of our school years. For the staff, the task of assembling the material which com- prises the book was an enjoyable one. That it may give equal enjoyment to all who thumb its pages is the sincere wish of those who are responsible for its publication.

Max J. Herzber There's an undue tendency toward pessimism these days. It may be true, as some gloomy people think, that within a few years the only inhabit- ants left on the face of the earth will be living in caves, or even that the earth itself will disappear in a chain reaction. But it doesn't seem likely. At any rate, you can in the meantime feel very cheerful about being citizens of the greatest of all nations, where by the grace of Cod food is plentiful and gainful employment the highest in our history. We enjoy, moreover, the blessing of a free government where men may speak and write freely, where the individual citizen need not fear the cruel demands of a totalitarian tyranny, and where each man's program in the world still depends on his own efforts and desires. Make thankful use of your opportunities and blessings as Americans. 6
