T li e Torek Here is the Torch, that blazing Guide of Youth; The symbol of our dreams still burning bright! It once led us upon the Path of truth. We pass it on to you who need its light. Once, not so long ago, with arms outstretched We took it from the grasp of those now gone. We vowed the flame they kindled would not die. We vowed the work they did we'd carry on. At first our hands grew tired in their hold, Our falt'ring feet would stumble as they stepped. But now our steps are quick and neat and sure; Our vows are whole, our covenant is kept. Look at the Torch! I ts lapping tongue of red Proclaims its strength from out its very core! That is the flame we kindled, watched and fed Until it burned more brightly than before. The fuel it burned was aspiration high, We kindled that great fire in Honor's name, Ambition kept its watch both night and day. Behold—the Torch that wrote our deeds in flame Now other hands stretch out to take their Guide, And others take the vows to make it grow. We know, though empty hands are at each side, That none of us will ever let it go. For with each deed or daily task well done. As proudly in the world we take our part, A glow will be reflected on each face— An age-old Torch rekindled in each heart. »6 CAROLYN LANDAU
