Published by WEEKSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL Weeksville, North Carolina Many doors have been opened at Weeksville High School during the year 1959 -1960--doors to knowl- edge, culture, and a better way of life. We have approached each door with trepidation, not sure just what lurked behind it. However, each one has opened to us a new world of wonder. We have followed step by step behind those who have trodden these halls before us. There have been many who helped make our way pleasant and profitable. The hinges on these doors have been oiled, the splinters removed, and the locks made workable by our parents, our teachers, and the ad- ministrative bodies. All of these have contributed to our growth as we have advanced from door to door, and at last to the open door of opporttuiity. This book tells the story of our year and of the people and events that have made it memorable. As you read its pages, it is our wish that you may enjoy, as we have, the rich adventures which we have had as we have knocked on door after door, seeking every opportunity to enrich our lives socially, culturally, and educationally. When in the future you look back through the door of success and review the outstanding events of your past, may the pages of this book help you relive the wonderful experiences of the year 1959-1960. Having been fourth grade teacher for all this time, Mrs. Lowry has taught every student now in school above the third grade. MOORE SUPERINTENDENT of Pasquotank County Schools, is one of the state's foremost school men. He works tire- lessly for the improvement of all phases of education in this county. Often his interest and sense of responsibility will prompt him to make an early morning visit to a school where repairs are needed or are in process. The sight of his blue Ford on an unpaved road, checking road conditions in bad weath er, is not unusual. He is actively affiliated with the outstanding civic organizations of the county and city, and has served as an officer in many of them. His church work is exemplary as he participates actively in the First Baptist Church and in the district association. 0 The County Board of Education is composed of a representative group including business and professional men and farmers working together as a group to keep the county educational machinery working smoothly. Each contestant rode onto the field in a convertible and was accompanied M to the fifty-yard line by an escort of her own choice.
