WEBTIDE 1988 DEDICATION We, the Senior Class, enthusiastically voted to dedicate this yearbook to John Vozab. Mr. Vozab belongs to Webutuck as we belong to Webutuck. It is in this environment that we par- ticipate in learning. In English class, Mr. Vozab makes literature and vozabulary relevant to us. He respects any hardworking student; we respect his fairness and commitment; therefore, we work hard. He enlivens the classroom with fishing and station wagon anecdotes. He is our friend. With his relaxed manner and total dedication, John Vozab is a part of what Webutuck means to us. SOCCER 25 GIRLS’ SOCCER TEAMS 1987 Coach Vi Valckenaere ex- pects the '88 team will be as competitive as last year's, even though the graduation of twelve players has left the squad shorthanded. The team finished third in Section C, and placed three players: Lisa Babbitt, Leslie Cookingham and Lisa Lawrence on the All League Team. The scores were vastly improved over that of two years ago and even though the majority of players are new to Varsity this year, 1988 will be a winning season. “The 1987 Girls’ J.V. Soccer season doubled their scoring ability over the 1986 season. With sideline help from scorekeepers Wendy Perotti and Mary McNamara the team put their overall record at three wins and six losses. Tracy Patnode was the leading scor- er. By doing so, they have been placed among the top half of one percent of the New York State stu- dents in the 1987-88 high school grad- uating class. Along with the other top scorers in the nationwide semifinalist group, Ricky and Jon will have an op- portunity to continue for about 6,000 merit scholarships. Although John Conklin didn't qualify as a semifinalist, he was named a “commended student” by the national merit scholarship corporation. He placed in the top 50,000 of the more than one million juniors who took the P.S.A.T. in October of 1986. From Left to Right: Jon Boyer, Ricky Fortgang, and John Conklin. Mother Nature was cooperative with abounding sunshine, great snow, and moderate temperature. Students enjoyed the true bounty of downhill skiing by trav- elling down beautiful tree-lined trails and viewing the high peaks. Spectacular views of the snow-capped peak of Mt. Washington and vistas of Stratton, Mt. Snow and other surrounding peaks were ever pres- ent. Assistance by Mr. and Mrs. Harvey, Mr Paviliga, Mr. Eschbach, Mrs. Duncan, Mrs. Conklin, and Mr. Schroeder provided the wonderful support for skiers of all abilities. No ski trip would ever be complete without the wonderful navigation of Stan-the-man, who again brought us safely to our various des- tinations PHYSICS STUDENTS VISIT AVIATION CENTER Physics field trip: the physics class of 1988 had the unique opportunity to fly this year. Students in Mr Riemer's physics class were able to better understand the principals of flying by experienc- ing it for themselves. Members of this year's class listened to the various physical principles of how an airplane achieves lift and maintains its stability in the air. Under the cautious guidance of a Webutuck alumnus, Mr. William Brinker, the stu- dents flew over the surrounding countryside en- joying the thrill of piloting and riding in a real flight training exercise.
