T O Dr Cotterman, Board of ducatlon, Faculty, Parents and Frlends e extent our heartfelt greetlngs and salutatlons to parents, teachers, and school offlclals We salute ourparents because lt lS they who have sus ta ned ard sponsored us durnng all the years that we have been preparlng our selves for our llfe careers We salute our teachers who have helped and encour aged us to overcome the obstacles along the road of Knowledge, and who have been so patlent wlth us durlng ll these years We salute the school offlcnlals and patrons who have provlded the bu1ld1ngs and equlpment wlthout whlch could not have carrled on and tnus attalned the goal to whlch we asplred graduatlon And what does lt mean? Ofwhat lmportance 1s :Lt to us? It means the suc cessful endlng of a certaln course of study and to some of us, perhaps, lt spells FINIS to our school actlvlties and the beglnnlng of our l fe work T others lt 15 the beglnnmg of a hlgher course of stuchf a fuller and more elab orate preparatlon What can be saldof the studentfs outlook on llfe today? What does llfe hold 1n store for the confused student fresh from the shelterlng lnfluence of the classroom? In reallty the outlook :Ls far more compllcated now than :Lt was a century cr half a century ago. The last flfty years has seen more and greater achlevements than any other half century ln the worldis hlstory The farmer of today 1S no longer an lsolated person If he needs repalrs for one of h1s numerous farm lmplements, he steps 1nto h1s auto, drlves to town and 13 back at work ln a few mlnutes. H13 produce 1S taken to market 1n a gaso llne truck over excellent roads In the evenlng he reads hls da1ly paper by electrlc or fluorescent llghts, or 1s entertained by the radlo or televlslon The buslnessman ofSanFranc1sco who has transactlons to attend to 111 New York, may eat h1s breakfast ln hls own home, board a plane and take lunch 1n Kan sas Clty and hls dlnner ln New York Sc1ent1f1c research lS revolutlonlzlng the world's lndustrles, :Lts war fare and lts medlcal aspect. In war a slngle bomb 1S capable of destroylng a whole clty and 1ts lnhabltants, and that same atomlc energy blds fair to become a predomlnant motlve power ln our lndustrlal world In medlclne, the sulnha drug and pen1c1ll1n have come to the front :Ln masterlng dlseases that were always Cl8SSlflSd as lncurable, and ln treatlng the battle wounds of soldlers What greater vocatlon could there be for any man or woman than that ofa creator of peace among the natlors of the world? It would be a supreme achleve ment and acrlevement greater than that of any honors to be won ln sclencecr art or lterature or war What greater glory could anyone ask than thls to be a modern Prlnce of Peace Our ways henceforth are to be separate ways No longer are me to travel and work together collectlvely as a slngle body We are to rely solely upon ourselves, indlvldually, to succeed or fall accordlng as we put our hearts and mlnds and hands to the task that we set for ourselves True, we shall mlss the wlse counsel of our teachers However, we of the present generatlon have been coached more thoroughly ln world affalrs, we have been better tralned, perhaps, to depend upon self'-confldence and self rel1ance, than graduates of the older days And so we go forth glrded with courage and fortltude to combat the puzzllng problems of th1s the atomlc age 25 'ames Phllo r D n L R Y Y .
