C s PRDPHIGZ In 1970, Bernece Eilert, the private secretary of the governor ofOhio, was given an all-expense paid vacation, so she decided to chance the new rocket trip to the moon. As she boarded the Greyhound bus, who did she find the driver to be, but the hot rod driver of Scotch Ridge , Tom Davidson, and also one of her former classmates As everyone knows he was always doing his best in keeping away from the cops Since Bernece knewthe driver she seated herself in the front seat to visit Roaring through the country side they discussed their classnates Tom said that the last time he heard anything about Ronnielvloore he was playing bas ketball for the University of Texas , where he was also taking a course in Mathematics Ronnie always thought someone was needed in Washing-tonto figure out the national budget Then Tom went on to say, he heard the other day that the former Ruth Bosse was now living in California To Bernece's great surprise she learned that Ruth had a family of three boys and three girls Stopping at Niagara Falls to transfer to another bus there was a delay, so Bernece went to have a look at the Falls There she met the former Kathryn Milliron who was on her honeymoon. She introduned Bernece to her husband, a very famous movie star Bernece then went to one of themanystands to buy some souvenirs When she finally found what she wanted, to her surprise she was waited upon by none other than Alex Schivelbein, the ovmer of the stand He was the shortest mem ber of the claus but he made abig hit with the children, selling pfearmts and souvenirs After he had failed in his attempt to go over the Falls in an inner-tube, he took over this very profiting businessa Alex told Bernece that JimPh:llo had made the headlines of the Daily Times He had succeeded in going over the Falls in a rubber barrel, but this wasnft much of a surprise, because he was always known as the boy most likely to succeed Finally she boarded the bus on its way to New York, which was the only place in the United States where she could board the rocket Arriving in New York she had two hours time before she hadto leave for the moon so she went down town. She said to herself, 'I'll have to see the Empi.c State B.1i1ding', o ing, Step to the back of the elevator, please ,which sounded very familia. It was the voice of a charming and very famous elevator girl, Doris Dierk sheide Doris has gained nation wide recognition running her elevator with such speed and accuracy After hurriedly reaching the top she looked towards Times Square and there saw the name Mary Wallace written in lights on the front of the Pa.ramou.t Theater Mary was playing t e leading role in the very popular show, Nor th ac1fic , opposite of, Sou Pacific From there Bernece headed for Laousrdna Airport, where the Rocket Stat on was located Once on the airport grounds she neededa cup of coffee to settle her nerves, so she went into the restaurant Seating herself at the counter the waitress said, May I take your order? To her great surprise thewaitress was her former classmate, M1 ss Marilyn Ward She didn t have much time so she drank her coffee in a Fur ry and rushed out to the rocket CCont1nued on page 261 20 I O . . Y F VALBDICTORY Mr. Cotterman, Members of the Board of Education, Faculty, Parents, and FI'iendS The time hascome for us, as a class, to separate to break the bonds that have held us closely together all these years durmgwhich we have been strl v1ng to attain a common goal graduatlon Much of the time lt has been up hlll work, sometlmes the tasks have seemed too difficult to master the burdens heavler than we could bear, but we were young, and w1th perseverance and a bull-dog determlnatlon, we have come safely and triumphantly to the fmish Sometlmes lt seemed little more than drudgery, but now that we have come to the end of the courseand look back over the years, it doesn't appear so bad after all The recollection of many happy events, sandwlched :Ln between, have somehow made us forget the rougher spots along the way Now that we have reached this lmportant stat1oninL1fe's journey, the ex ultatmon of the occasion to which we have looked forward , has somehow glven place to a feeling of sadnessas we come to a realmzation that the direct and more 1.nt1mate association w1th each other is to be severed that the friend sh1ps of twelve years are to be but a happy memory But such 15 l1fe always changmg nothmg remains at a standstill A successful lJ.fe1saprogress1ve one, otherwlse it becomes like a stagnant pool No longer aneweactive members of the Senlor Class of Webster 'Iwp School We are to launch forth 1nto the held ofneirendeavor and adventure New asso c1at1ons are to be formed, more practlcal andmore mature ones We are to enter our llfe careers Shall we succeed or shall we faJ.l'7 That depends entlrely upon ourselves Each one of us holds w1thin hls or her grasp the Golden Key of Success Fhch depends upon the wisdomand judgment wlth which each one has selected his life's vocat1on, the appl1cat1on he g1ves to lt, the perslstant efforts and doggedness with whlch he pursues lt We may learn a great deal from the Lmcoln and Carnegie and Edison None of them had the advantages of school education, such as we have enjoyed, and yet, by their hero1c efforts, they achleved world w1de fame and made the whole unlverse happler and better for thelr havlng lived Bythis I do not mean to bel1ttle a High School education but rather to emphasize how much greater should be our chances ofeuccess with the educatlon that we have Education should notendwlth graduatnon Thls graduatlon day of ours should be only one of the milestones onoureducatlonal hlghway In reallty lt should be what we commonly speak of as Commencement Day It shouldbe the commencement of our lafe long quest for practlcal knowledge and research nf we are to win the greatest success :Ln 1:.fe Now, lt is time to say farewell We shall soon be wendlng our separate paths Some of us may win fame or xortune or both, others may be ontent to remain in the modest walks of llfe, nel ber grovelmg ln the d t or soarlng to the hlghest peaks But whatever we do orwhatever we are, we hall alway look back wlth prlde and Joy at this glorlous class of 1953 May the memormes remaln w1th us always and spur us on to a greater and more frultful lnfe Ronald Moore 2h success or failure of others. Ofwhat lmportance 1s :Lt to us? It means the suc cessful endlng of a certaln course of study and to some of us, perhaps, lt spells FINIS to our school actlvlties and the beglnnlng of our l fe work T others lt 15 the beglnnmg of a hlgher course of stuchf a fuller and more elab orate preparatlon What can be saldof the studentfs outlook on llfe today? What does llfe hold 1n store for the confused student fresh from the shelterlng lnfluence of the classroom?
