The P.T.A. aids our school by funds from membership and by spon- soring an annual spaghetti supper. Such items as water fountains and encyclopedias are secured through P.T.A. funds. J. Parris, Chris Cordts, Donna Green. The Student Council is made up of twenty members, a boy and girl elected from each home room. The purpose of the Student Council is to further and improve pupil participation in school affairs. This organization meets with the sponsors every two weeks. This year Student Council Members have served as escorts on Parents’ Visitation Day, refreshment salesmen at basketball games and escorts for incoming seventh grade students on Orientation Day: The officers are: Pat Tindall — President Mike Davey — Vice-President Evelyn Tankowsky — Secretary Lorrie McCann — Treasurer Page 27 GIRLS’ CHORUS A ; : i i N ; ; ’ we ; ‘ | - te — ; “7 Seventh Grade Special Group a oo eres: nw : . a ‘ ¢ % oe | Eighth Grade Special Group Page 28 BOYS’ CHORUS 1) The boys’ Chorus consists of forty-five boys and the Girls’ Chorus consists of fifty- two members in the seventh grade and fifty-six in the eighth grade, under the direction of Bertha Jones. The combined Chorus presenc a concert at Christmas and in the Spring. They attend two festivals, the Southern Illinois Vocal Association Festival, and Music Under the Stars at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Special groups sing at P.T.A. and other organizations. Four superior students attend All Srate every year. The primary goal of music education is enjoyment, understanding, and satisfaction. The members also participate in District and State solo, ensemble and band contests. The 155 piece marching Band parades for many civic functions, as well as Dog Days Eighth grade students are recommended for All State activity based on Scholarship, March of Pennies and the Marble Tournament. Contests held during the year are “Food Poster Contest.” Dog Days signs, Poppy Poster, and Womans Club Contest. An art exhibit is held each May and an ex- hibit is placed in the County Fair each summer. In the second game of the tournament they were victorious over Zeigler-Royalton. In the championship game, our Rangers defeated the Ewing team in an exciting contest by a score of 40 to 37.
