FIFTH PERIOD ACTIVITIES Something new at Webster! This year interest groups were formed to take the place of the fifth period guidance discussions. They Were organ- ized to stimulate different interests and to pro- vide an opportunity for open discussions, debates, demonstrations, and general enjoyment. The clubs met during the fifth period on Tuesdays. and study halls were provided for those who did not join a club. The organizations include the following: Rod and Gun Club Boys' Gym Club Girls' Gym Club Automotive Club Art Club Eighth and Ninth Grade Charm Club Debating Club Tumbling Club Seventh Grade Science Club Shop Club Page Thirty-six

AUBURN YOUTH ACTIVITIES COUNCIL The Webster Junior High School representa- tives of the Activities Council this year were Don- na Conant and Chuck Hewett. The purpose of the Council is to promote recreation for the youth of Auburn. They held dances and other pro- grams such as the Junior Olympics which helped out the Auburn Parks and Recreation Depart- ment. One of the Youth Activities Council's duties is to sponsor Student Government Day. STUDENT GOVERNMENT DAY Student Government Day is a project sponsored by the Auburn Youth Activities Council. Each year students from Edward Little, Webster, Wal- ton, and Sacred Heart elect representatives who, on a special day, take part in the management of the city. This year the students enjoyed a free dinner at the Phil-O-Mar and attended a regular council meeting. Representatives from Webster were Jan Thompson - Councilman from Ward 5g Sue James - City Auditorg and Chuck Blatt - Chief of Police. ---i- r fa .... , V . :::3 Q MAGAZINE DRIVE This year as every year the magazine drive was the major money making event at Webster. An assembly was held in which Mr. Robert Sprague, the representative for The Quality School Plan, briefed the student body on the pro- cedure to follow in order to make the drive a success. The proceeds from the campaign went into the school activity fund which helped to provide the necessary equipment for school ac- tivities. Prizes were awarded to the students de- pending on the amount of money they brought in, and the high salesmen were Tim Scammon, and Pam Buchanan. The students who served as managers were Sue James, Chuck Blatt, Cindy Carol, Tom Platz, Kelley Clark, and John Connell. Page Thirty-eight
