DEDICATION WE, THE NINTH GRADE CLASS OF 1963, AFFECTIONATELY DEDICATE OUR YEARBOOK TO MRS. CATHARINE WHITTEN, WHOSE PATIENT GUIDANCE, WARM FRIENDSHIP, AND EXPERT TEACHING HAVE HELPED US THROUGH OUR YEARS AT WEBSTER. W-E-B-S-T-E-R! RAH,RAH,RAH ..... ! So starts one of Webster's well-konwn cheers, enthusiastically shouted at our many sports events. The cheer has a deep meaning for the players be- cause, at the sound of its familiar ring, they feel the support of the crowd and work harder to please the excited people. However, the individual letters shouted so strongly should have a deep meaning for all of us. Let's analyze these letters: W - stands for WE, the students and teachers, who work together to better understand ourselves and the peoples of the world. E - is for EDUCATION, which makes possible a deeper appreciation and awareness of the achieve- ments of our modern world. B -- stands for BOOKS - books that we use as texts, books for leisure reading, books for almost any- thing we could possibly wish. Books bring far-ofif lands to our fingertips and open new worlds for ex- ploration, S - is for SCHOOL, where human minds are shaped, and talents and interests are cultivated. T - stands for TESTS - tests to better prepare us to meet the demands of living and the challenges of life. E - is for EXTRA - CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, groups that help develop the interests of students and encourage friendships. R - symbolizes the REASONS we are proud of Webster. The fine curriculum, dedicated teachers, and interesting clubs and organizations explain why Web- ster is so enjoyed by all. THE WEBSTER BLUE and GOLD Music by Robert Chaplin Words by Charles Jordan Set the echoes ringing loud and clear Lift the spirit proud and free, With a song of Webster's Blue and Gold As we march right on to Victory. We'll give a cheer for Webster's fighting team And our colors we'Il unfold. We are on our way to a win today For the Webster Blue and Gold. When you see the band march down the street, When you hear the music start, Then you'll ioin the chorus loud and strong With a song that's always in your heart. And when the boys in blue come crashing through, Every step with courage bold, . Fighting down the field 'til the foe must yield To the Webster Blue and Gold, THE THREE INDISPENSABLES MRS. Give us an understanding heart To know our fellow man That we may not wound or censure But always understand. Give us perceptive eyes that see A lonely one's distress, Eyes that look beneath the surface At every soul's realness. Guard our lips so that we speak, The best of friend or foe. ln every utterance, may we use The kindest words we know. Give us keenly attuned ears To catch the sweet refrain Of a stumbling human's foot-steps, As he strives on again. This then our request: Give us an understanding heart To know our fellow-man, That we may not wound or censure But, always, understand. T. The council has sponsored two school dances. One dance followed the Webster-Walton annual 'Foot- ball game, the other was held as a Christmas record- hop. Three Major projects were undertaken during the course of the year. The general objective of one of these projects was to enhance the beauty of the school grounds, This was done by planting new grass, shrubbery, and small trees on the area at the front ot the building. Another project was to provide Webster with a handbook for incoming students. The handbook con- tains a history of the school, courses, school policies, school song, and school cheers. The final project was a variety show, featuring talented students of Webster, presented as a school assembly program. We would like to take this oppor- tunity to thank all who helped make our projects a success. X 3.35 YM 4 ' an k. 8 'Q' Us 2 4 , -M . ::::,., 1 if en.,,,H Q X V. in ,,, , . ,. With his birds of prey he gave a very vivid, live demonstration of falconry. At a later assembly Otto Schmidt displayed his talent in the field of gymnastics. A comic with great versatility, Schmidt combined jokes with well timed advice which coincided with President Kennedy's ap- peal 'For increased emphasis upon physical activity. A highlight of this year's assembly program came when the Walton Junior High School presented ex- cerpts from H.M.S, Pinafore. The cast showed ex- cellent training and talent in presenting some of the more difficult scenes from this Gilbert and Sullivan operetta. Our own talent show climaxed the assembly sche- dule with a production which ran the gamut from comedy to refinement. Many Webster students took part in this presentation which was well received by all. She began her career in East Winthrop, Maine, in the year 1917. She has also taught in the States of New Hampshire an Massachusetts. ln 1932 she obtained a B.S. degree from Farmington State Teachers College. Miss Bishop ioined the Webster School faculty in 1943. She has devoted her life to the guidance of young girls in the vocation of home-rnaking. AT SCHOOL-CLOSE by John Greenleaf Whittier The end has come, as come it must To all things, in these sweet June days The teacher and the scholar trust Their parting feet to separate ways. They part: but in the years to be Shall pleasant memories cling to each, As shells bear inland from the sea The murmur of the rhythmic beach. Her little realm the teacher leaves, She breaks her wand of power apart, While, for your love and trust, she gives The warm thanks of a grateful heart. And, when the world shall link your names With gracious lives and manners fine, The teacher shall assert her claims, And proudly whisper, These were mine! 77 df My W A 77,1 ff-A, 3xQLw'3MQKZEEL!'
