.Xxx lllli .4 .1 'Alf . or--f-r es .2-1 nl By October the various clubs were ready to organize. Girls, under Mrs. Campbell, organized the Homemaking Club, electing Lelq Mqe Cox president, Virginia Hutton, Eloise Opton and Weira Maupin also accepted offices. The year's program began with dress-making, included a style show for the P. T. A., and turned to cook- ing and the study .of foods during the second semester. Lela Mae was also chosen president of the Choral Club which ,met daily under Mrs. Boyle and included 45 students. The chorus participated in the Fine Arts Festival and pro- duced an operetta. However, the important election of this organizing period was that for officers in the stu- dent government. The candidates were heard in assembly before the students registered in the civics room and made their selections. Dorral Davis was elected presidentg Weira Maupin, vice-president, and Ieanette Stras- ding, secretary. Representing classes and organizations on the council were Charles Lamb T.ela Mae Cox, Charles Brummerhop and Peewee Burns ' Football dances after games were planned by the council but its main attention was :entered on schemes for a successful Sadie Hawkins day. Whispers of autumn through the season were denied as Websterites celebrated in brief costumes the anniversary of the hill-billy spinster. The Li'l Abners and Daisy 'Mae's returned to school in the evening for a dance. The usual dogpatch style of forward women was no- ticeable. Darlene Morris and Charles Lamb with Weira Maupin and Buddy Hawkins were chosen most typical Li'l Abners and Daisy Mae's, sothey were married and properly kissed by all concerned. This made up for the absence ofsugar in the lemonade. ,October saw the strangest new report card issued at the six weeks period. Instead of number grades, teachers issued marks of S forsatisfactory with a few H's for with high hon- ors. Mildred Emert, Ioan Galloway, Chlotiel Nelson, Virginia Hutton, Ida Lou Quinn, Melvin Barcelo, Mary Ieanne Bracewell and RhodaDee Parke received H's this year. The seniors were entertained Halloweennight by their sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. Clark. After the party most of Webster's students at-tended the midni ht show in La Porte.
