f 'L 4st SUSPENSE, a mystery comedy by Glenn Hughes was presented by the senior class on May 17, 1946. The action takes place in the McBride home just outside of New York City on an early spring day. Stan McBride is a young radio actor who is known for his Sherlock Holmes portray- als. His Dr. Watson is known as Roy Bishop. Stuart Brownlie is the sponsor of the Sherlock Holmes program. He is to be a guest at a tea given by Mrs. McBride as well as Betty Archer, a radio reporter, and Mr. Putnam. Complications and mystery follow the presentation to Stan of an anniversary gift of a cigarette case. Soon arrive George Spencer, Madeline Revelle, Whitey Nelson, Barbara Field, and Mrs. Slater, each desiring to secure the cigarette case. The law is represented by Slim Lynch, a deputy sheriff. ROW It F. Anderson, Witt, H. Williams, Chilson, Rathbun. Under the supervision of Mr. Elliott, the declamation season began during the closing days of October. Those participating in the district contest at Andover were, Velda Waller with a good rating in poetry, John Peters with an excellent rating in oratory, and Norman Soyland with an excellent rating in dramatics. Webster debaters opened the l947 season by winning the Freshman-Sophomore Tri- State Debate Tournament at Madison, February 1. The Sioux Falls Tournament, held February 14 and 15, found Marion Rathbun and John Peters entering original oratory and declamation, Carol Witt and Frederick Hallstrom, extemporaneous speaking, Frances Anderson, dramatic reading, and Joan Chilson, poetry reading and six rounds of debate. The same group participated in the Moorhead State Teachers Tournament, February 22, the Regional 'Tournament, March ll and 12, and the State Tournament held at Huron college on March 17 and 18.
