Hampered most of the season by injuries to many key players, the grid machine amassed a total of 104 points to their opponents' 57. In the first game of the sea- son, Webster defeated the Ab- erdeen Reserves 59 to 7. Next by defeating Britton in a thrilling game 14 to 7, the Bearcats chalked up their first conference win. Then, despite injuries, the Webster f Eleven put up a strong fight against Milbank, the Confer- ence Champions, only to be turned back 27 to O. Webster lost the next game also. Czar. ff C4,,..,,1,., Winning a thriller from the Platte Black Panthers in the first game, the Webster boys rode over two more opponents to give them the 1946 State nBn Championship, the first in the history of the school. With but 5 seconds of the game left, Lefty Engebritson made the winning shot. Although this was but the first win in the tournament for the nCatsu, it was the most thrilling and most crucial game. Other State Tournament victories for the squad were over Thomas and Hurley. The Webster squad won their birth to the State Class nBn Tournament by winning the Dist- rict and Regional Tournaments. In the Regional finals, the Webster Cagers, behind at the half, beat a stubborn Sisseton team 44-55. The Bearcats defeated Bradley in the first game. In the District Tournament, the nCatsn played one of their best games by defeat- ing Andover 61-27. Winning this tour- nament earned the Websterians the right to play in the Regional. The Bearcats defeated Langford, Britton, and Groton.Webster, defeated only once in Conference play, won the Conference Tournament also and captured the North- east Conference Title for the third successive year. During the season the Bearcats also registered wins over such large and strong schools as Brookings,lMadison, T and Watertown.
