Ml GHC? 0M,l'lCl Webster Groves Hrgh School has made great progress rn the freld of student g vernment and a strrkmg example of thrs IS the Student Gurd ance Councrl Whrle most of the schools m thrs area have student councrls there are very few Whrch have gurdance councrls The Student Gurdance Councrl functrons as the Judrcral branch of the student government Student gurdes refer the names of those people who break the rules to the gurdance councrl and the otfendmg student then meets wrth the councrl The counc1l trres to help the rndrvrdual to see hrs mrstakes and offers hrm frrendly ad vrce for correctmg the srtuatron Thus by re movrng the causes for vrolatron of the rules the gurdance councrl makes the school a better place m whrch to work By showmg the rn drvrdual how to correct hrs mrstalces a Qfurd ance councrl helps the student to become a better crtrzen rn school and communrty The auraance councrl was composed of three senrors one Junror and one sophomore who were elected by therr respectrve classes The Student Body Presrdent and the Senror School Presrdent acted as charrmen of the group The Student Gurdance Councrl IS a compara trvely new 1dea at Webster rt has been rn exrstence only frve years Durmg that trme how ever the counc1l has contmually trred to ac complrsh 1ts arm whrch has been to make the school a better place to attend The Morrrtors have grven expert gurdance to members of the Junror school agarn thrs year 'lhese erghth grade boys who wore the Monrtor arm badge were specrally recommended by class counselors by offrcers of the lunror Stu dent Councrl and by faculty members who had had them rn therr classes ln oraer to have the best organrzatron pos srble the Monrtor staff was made up of two eparate groups One group of twenty frve boys sponsored by Mrss Brantley supervrsed the seventh and erghth grade lunch perrod The e b ys controlled the lunch and the candy lrres and kept the lunchroom rn order The other group of M nrtors sponsored by Mr Lrtz mger served as hall monrtcrs durrng the noon OH l ill fd Twenty hour Thrs group of about twenty frve boys was respons ble for preventrng confusron rn the halls and for keeprng the students wrthrn the Junror school area Both groups of Monrtors performed therr dutres effrcrently The boys who served as Monrtors thrs year were successful rn gamrng the respect of therr cla smates because of the leadershrp qualrtres whrch they had already begun to develop Tra drtronally they have been rust rn reprrmandrng and rn punrshrng students when necessary Because or the outstandrng record of thrs organ rzatron most of the student leaders rn hrgh chool pornt wrth prrde to therr experrenc as Monrtors m the rumor school ! lg I . .
